A restored example of life on a sugar plantation in the 1800s, this site features a great house filled with reproductions of colonial furniture, three-foot-thick walls made of stone, coral and molasses, plus the original sugar processing plant and windmill.

This is a unique experience to walk through the round brick house and explore the grounds. There are knowledgeable people there to answer questions and a little entertainment singing songs from the era. The sugar mill is still standing, all of it is a must...More

Interesting local history, informative guide, lovely property, still in need of renovation. Spend your bucks, they really need money to help preserve the house!

This is about the only place where you can visit a historic plantation to get a sense of what the old plantations were like. The house stays much cooler than you'd expect because of its construction, which was very innovative. They have some restored buildings...More

It has been 5 years since we last visited Whim Plantation. Not really any progress in terms of making it a more interesting, immersive historical venue. Absolutely worth a visit, it is just that with a little work it could be really interesting. Farm equipment...More

Lots of St Croix history with a somewhat restored Plantation house and grounds with sugar mill. The tour was informative and helpful to understand the history of St. Croix. The ceilings and roof are in need of repair..greatly needed donations.

This place is a must-do for those interested in learning the dynamics of the island. For a low admission fee you get a guided house tour and then you walk around the grounds on your own. Don't forget the sun protector and bug spray -...More

We went on a day when only self-guided tours were available. The first thing we were told was that they were short staffed but since we were already there we paid the admission and walked around the museum for about 30 minutes. The whole museum...More

The Estate Whim is unusual that it's a furnished estate instead of stone ruins. Although in need of continued restoration, the grounds give visitors a depiction of sugar cane plantation life. Exhibits show the cruelty of slavery, but celebrate those that descended from these strong...More

What was the cost of the taxi ride from the cruise ship pier? Did the taxi wait for you or were you able to easily pick up another taxi when you were ready to return to the ship. Also, are there botanical gardens on the property that you can visit?

I also had a car but a taxi would be reasonable - the Whim estate isn't that far from the pier. I didn't go to the botanical garden (St. George's, I think), but I heard great things about it. I think they're fairly close... More
