It's a hike up the hills and steps but worth it to see some history of Charlotte Amalie. I was able to get inside, for a brief moment, to take some pictures and look around. It seems they don't like visitors in the first floor.

This was another historical building that was recommended on the self 99 steps walking tour. I like history, isn't that part of taking in the island and knowing what past cultures inhabited the islands. I enjoyed this. I would recommend visiting the Government House. The guard was friendly and helpful.

Government house is a two story building with intricate white ironwork and includes the Virgin Islands governor’s office. Standing on these balconies provides a commanding view of Charlotte Amalie and the Caribbean Sea. It was built in 1867 for the Danish Colonial Council. Inside is art including works by the French Impressionist Camille Pissarro and portraits of previous governors. You... More

Impressive building with pretty gardens/fountain opposite (from where there are some good views over the port). Nice place to take some photos but you cannot actually go in.

This historical building in the downtown historical area of Charlotte Amalie is where the Governor of the Virgin Islands resides. It was built more than 150 years ago and is part of the walking history tour. It is so different from other government mansions in that there was no security preventing the local public from admiring the government history close... More

Although the place was sortof officially closed, the guard walked through with us on a limited trip. Nice guy. Good history.

This is close to the bottom of the 99 steps (I counted 103 including the curb). When we were there, it was beautifully decorated for Christmas with roping, wreaths and large red ribbons, I walked up the stairs, and learned you had to be buzzed in, if you had government business. Since I did not, I went on.

This is one of the nicer sites to see when you're walking around the downtown area of of Charlotte Amelie as it's easy to get stuck on the shopping and other boring touristy things here, but the Governor's House is really nice and photographs well even though you're very close to it as it's hard to get a photo from... Worth a quick stop just to see the outside of the building. Nice view of the ocean as well. If doing a self walking tour it's worth a quick stop
