Overview

More
Brecon Mountain Railway was built on part of the abandoned Brecon & Merthyr Railway which was originally built in 1859. Travel behind a vintage Steam Locomotive in our all-weather observation coaches and admire the spectacular views on your 10 mile round journey. The railway climbs to Torpantau, high in the Brecon Beacons before returning Pontsticill Station. Visit our Steam Museum, Children's Play area and Lakeside Café. At Pant Station we have Tearooms, Gift Shop and a Workshop. Facilities for disabled passengers including ramps, toilets and an adapted carriage to accommodate wheelchairs.

We had a great time on the railway. Very friendly staff. They even let the children on the engine to have a look at it all works. Thoroughly recommend.

We wanted to take our 3 kids (11,8 and 1.5) on a day trip to something 'Welsh' rather than yet another soft play, trampoline Park etc etc and we are so glad we chose this. The trains are in spectacular condition, the staff are clearly...More

Can’t believe some of the negative reviews people have left? Then I suppose some people are never happy. We had an amazing day, the scenery breathtaking and the train journey was such fun. Thank you to all the pleasant staff that work so hard and...More

The Pensylvanian engine was a delight, drivers were very knowledgeable about its performance and history details. Carriages were also very clean and obviously well-kept and loved, too. The weather was very overcast and raining constantly the entire ride, so views were totally restricted (as to...More

"mountain" railway is a little deceptive. Train ran along the road, past dirty, broken allotments, piles of rubbish, a scout camp and a man-made reservoir. Not quite the heart of Brecon views we were expecting - don't like complaining but when you only have a...More

This is the 2nd year in a row that we have jumped on the BMR at Easter time. With 2 young kids in tow they loved the steam train but it's really a trip for ages, given the beautiful scenery out of the window. The...More

Somewhat disappointed to be honest. Wales has some lovely narrow steam trains with some stunning scenery, sadly this one i found very underwhelming and almost boring. Firstly the car park needs some lines painting! Dear god, there was one row of cars in which every...More

Lovely morning out seeing the beautiful views over the reservoir and forest. We enjoyed the experience, and the steam museum is nice to visit during the stop at Pontsticill.

There are no toilets at our Torpantau Station or on the train. We have full facilities at both our main station at Pant and Pontsticill Station which is where you stop on the return journey.
