Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Very little parking and you have to walk down a rutted path to get there. There is no shade because the beach faces south so even the few trees don’t help. The snorkeling was only ok. I’ll stick to the beautiful Trunk Beach and Maho

We decided to give this spot a try since it's rated as one of the top snorkel spots on St. John. We stayed near Coral Bay and the drive was not that bad. If you're coming from Cruz Bay it's a long drive. When we arrived around 2 the lot was completely full and we parked a little ways up the road along the side. It's a short hike to the beach and I was glad I brought my sneakers. The beach is on the smaller side but we managed to squeeze in. Now, the most important thing: the snorkeling was excellent. The reef seemed in better condition than those on the north shore, and the water was very protected (no waves or wind on the day we went). There were rays, turtles, and tons of fish. Tip - don't sit too near the trees because there were tons of tiny biting flies.

Wow! Visited Salt Pond Beach on St. John’s VI. We took the car ferry from St. Thomas and then headed to the opposite end of the island from Cruz Bay. It was well worth the trip and hike to the beach. There is only a few parking spots in the dirt and then you walk on a rocky trail to the beach, but it’s not difficult. The beach doesn’t have any amenities except a few picnic tables and we only saw 4 other people when we visited on a Tuesday morning. The sand is pristine white and the water calm and turquoise color. Snorkeling was exceptional and we saw various types of fish and some turtles. I highly recommend visiting this beach.

This and Waterlemon Cay were our TOP 2 snorkel spots!
We hiked rams head and we’re HOT and ready for a swim when we got back. Donned our fins and headed out, WAY OUT, to the rocks peaking out past the moored boats in the middle of the bay. Long swim out but SO WORTH IT.
Hard to pick which was better: waterlemon or salt pond as the coral was outstanding, the fish plentiful and it was sensory overload out there.
If you CAN, get there early and grab one of the several picnic tables in the shade before heading out. They also have a pit toilet on site. About a quarter mile hike to the beach from the parking lot. A vendor had chairs to rent on the road when we were there.

We hiked past this beach, going to Ram Head Trail, so we didn't linger and swim, but it was very pretty! It would probably be a good beach to go to if others are full and you want some space. But you just have to walk to it.

Worth the long drive to the East End! excellent sheltered bay with far fewer boats than many of the other bays, some shade and picnic tables, food trucks at the parking area for smoothies/fruit/snacks. Bring your picnic gear and stay the whole day - truly a beach paradise, and not very crowded. Clear water, good for snorkeling

We all loved Salt Pond although one grandchild said she thought it was too salty. The snorkeling was great. There is a little walk down to the ocean but the view is well worth it!

This was a great place for snorkeling, especially for kids. There are some picnic tables, get there early to get one. In the center of the beach, we saw several sea turtles. To the left along the rocks we saw lots of fish. If you swim along the right side, there is a very nice Elk Horn Coral. There is a rock a good ways out in the center, but there was so much boat traffic coming & going, we were afraid to make it out there. You can also hike to Ram's head which has some great views. It is a little bit of a walk from the parking lot down to the beach. It is uphill on the way back. We saw someone walking around looking in everyone's cars, so make sure you lock your doors or don't leave anything in your car.

We visited Salt Pond Beach twice during our trip. Our first visit was in early afternoon and the beach was slightly crowded. Parking was limited but a few spaces were available. The second visit was in the morning around 9am and the beach was almost empty with plenty of parking available. We hiked the Ram Head Trail and on our return took a swim at the beach. Was nice to be able to cool off after the hike. Sea turtles were near the shore and the water was very clear.

I would like to visit this area. I have an understanding that's it's in or near Galloway, NJ. Is there a place where I can get an address so I know exactly where to drive?
