    Take a deep breath
Saint John was everything we heard and read about and more. Picturesque, magical, tropical, relaxing, beautiful…the list goes on. Delete ALOT of your old pics because your arm will get tired here. The contrasts from water to sky to sand to trees is unlike any other island we’ve been to. There’s always someplace fun to eat and drink (expensive). You can shop at one of the few supermarkets (very expensive.) and make your own. There’s really only one shopping area (mongoose junction) so you won’t be distracted with that for very long. We stayed in a villa on Mamey Peak Road near Coral Bay. (Note: if you’re going to advertise that you have a hot tub, it should actually be working) Please note that Mamey Peak Road is not really a road because it’s an unpaved, pothole filled, hilly, rutted track. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. The roads on St. John are an exciting adventure to drive up and down with some hairpin turns, lots of switchbacks, rocks, donkeys, deer, roosters, etc. Get a Jeep! Rental cars are abusively expensive. We would go back tomorrow.

Best Beach Experience on St John
This was my favorite beach on St. John. We parked at the NP Visitor Center in Cruz Bay around 10:30 AM - there were a few spots left. It took about 30 minutes for us to hike the Lind Point Trail to Honeymoon Beach. The trail was well-maintained and had good signage, and if you take the lower trail there isn't much elevation change (but also no views). At the beach we snorkeled at the western end and saw a ton of fish and beautiful coral. The snorkeling was the best we saw during this trip. After snorkeling we got refreshing drinks from the bar and used the shower facilities, which were nicely kept. Then we hiked back to Cruz Bay. To get to Honeymoon Beach, you can also park at what used to be Caneel Bay Resort and take a shuttle for $6 per person. It's operated by the Caneel Bay Beach Club, and you can also rent a chair from them. We like hiking so we opted for that instead.

    Lovely hike and incredible beach
Given the other beaches on the island can get pretty crowded, we were intrigued by the idea of a more secluded beach. The hike was pretty easy, and we were amazed by the beach’s beauty. It’s small but there’s plenty of space to set up or walk around. We had some delicious drinks at the bar truck which made the day even more perfect. We did get lost on the way back and ended up in a completely different place than where we started (not sure how that happened). So be sure to pay attention to the trail markings!

We had been here before when the Caneel Bay Resort was open but is not worth visiting this beach at this time.

All of the signage says it is free to visit and park. However, as other reviewers have said, they charge $10 per person to take the shuttle to and from the beach. They do not allow you to walk down to the beach for free because of liability purposes since the Caneel Bay resort is currently closed. It’s pretty deceptive since there are multiple signs that say it’s free. There are so many other beaches on the island that are free — take advantage of those.

The beach is also very crowded compared to other beaches on the island. There is a little restaurant there but expect to pay a lot for basic hotdogs and hamburgers without any toppings. They’ll also pressure you to buy a really expensive reusable cup that is not a great deal unless you plan to have four or five drinks while you’re there.

Honeymoon Beach is a beautiful beach with bathroom facilities, a food stand and bar and a small gift shack and place to rent beach chairs and other equipment. They now even have servers that come around on the beach and take your drink and food orders. You need to shuttle from the Caneel Bay parking lot to the beach ($10 round trip per person) or hike to the beach. It is easy to get a taxi at the entrance near the shuttle. We arrived there before 9 a.m. before the beach got busy and were able to get a somewhat shady spot on the beach.

Beautiful beach that takes some effort to get to. $10 RT golf cart ride thru former Caneel resort or hike Lind Point Trail past Solomon Beach. Pack water and wear decent footware and you'll have a nice hike. We made the trip a couple times with a 6 year old.
The activities rental shop and bar are open. Pack a lunch or there is also limited food selection at the beach restaurant.

Such a beautiful spot. The snorkeling was great, saw a ton of fish and the coral is growing back beautifully! There is a cute little spot to buy food and drinks. There are paddle boards and kayaks to rent as well. We bought the day pass, but next time we'll just rent the floats which were perfect to use! The last time we came by a dinghy from Cruz Bay, but now you can park for free and take a hiking trail in or a golf cart ride for ten bucks round trip!

Part of the Caneel property which was devastated by the hurricanes of 2017 and the resort was never rebuilt. However it is part of the National Park system and is open to the public. This year you are allowed to park "for free" at Caneel but then are required to be driven to the beach by golf cart for $10 per person. Once there, you are able to purchase drinks (about $10 each with alcohol) as well as a snack bar and sandwich shop. They offer water sports rentals (chair, SUP, snorkel) for $49 pp for the day. We hiked in and sat on some plastic chairs on the beach but were told that we had to pay $10 pp to sit on the chairs. Our towels worked just fine instead. That all being said, the beach has beautiful white sand, relatively small waves and there is a nice reef to the left side of the beach for snorkeling. To hike here you can park at the National Park building across from Mongoose Junction (go inside to get the free parking pass) but have to get there early (like before 9-10) to get a spot. Hike the lower Lindpoint trail, past Solomon beach. The hike is moderate, is just about 1.25 miles and takes about 30-40 minutes.

not quite as good as we expected. The hike there was as advertised but be warned no shade! The beach is nice but as we got there a little later around 10:30 - 11 we only got 2 lounge chairs and never got waited on by the beach wait staff. The waiter came to our side of the beach but literally turned around and walked away without waiting on us. He was very busy I think they need more help! We did get to use the beach floats and a kayak which was nice. However had to wait for one of their kayak tours to return to get to use the kayak and this took a couple of hours. The food and drinks were good but pricey. We had our own snorkel gear so didn't need to use theirs. Not sure I would recommend this beach, the actual beach and snorkeling is not as nice as some others and the service was not great.

We spent a lot of money on our day trip here, but I would do it again! I have never seen such a gorgeous beach in my life. It is super clean and the water is crystal clear. Bathrooms are available and the staff are friendly and helpful. The drinks are pricey. A gentleman will also come around and over to serve you at your beach chair...which was awesome. We took lunch with us so we had no expense there, but you can eat there as well. The day pass included chairs and all of the water sports we wanted to do. I used a stand up paddle board for the first time.

The only downside is getting there. We hiked and it is straight downhill there and straight uphill back. It is not a long distance though, it just takes effort. There is also a shuttle which I would recommend to anyone that cannot handle a moderate hike in hot weather. It was tiring, but fun. Lots of little lizards and hermit crabs to see along the way. And still totally worth the hike. Just pack light and you will be fine! Also just be careful to note which trail you take down, because the multiple trails that go back up can get confusing.

We made a reservation for a cabana at Honeymoon Beach. When we arrived, it was a canopy tent with a outdoor sofa, lounge chair. We had to pay $5 extra for everyone to have a lounge chair. When we were in the water, some jerk came and took our lounge chairs. Then the beach club did not have anymore chairs for us. Make sure you place your PVC pole next to your chairs so folks won't grab them. Beach was the busy. Our server, Monica, was great! Truly a gem. You also have to pay for the taxi ride to the beach, which is $10.00 per person. I think you can go to Trunk Bay, Cinnamon Bay, Moha and have a better experience.

Great beach open to the public now. There's a new place there next to the souvenir stand that sells drinks and food and will wait on you on the beach. You can park at Caneel Bay and take a shuttle in for $5 a person each way or you can hike from Cruz Bay. Beautiful beach, reminded me of Solomon but bigger.

Had the same experience as the previous review with the men at the gate entrance. The entrance was confusing and there was no one at the actual gate house to check in. 3 men were sitting in the lawn passed the gate and not saying a word when we walked passed them looking confused. Once we got a little further passed them they told us to stop and lectured us about not checking in with them. None of them had masks on (only around neck). We told them we wanted to get to the beach and they lectured us some more before telling us to pay for the shuttle. We have no problem paying a few dollars for a shuttle but the service was so rude we just got the next shuttle to hawksnest beach. I’m sure the beach is beautiful, but there are many beautiful beaches here that don’t include rude service.
