IF you want handmade crafts, you're better off going to the craft center on Paradise Island. The Straw Market is stuffy, crowded and you will be talked to by every single vendor trying to get you to buy buy buy! The craft market on Paradise Island has many of the same crafts, but it is open and friendly making it... More

The straw market can be a little overwhelming as vendors are trying to get you to look at their merchandise. The ol don't make eye contact with anyone you don't want to bother you doesn't really apply here- as they can be pretty aggressive. This location is right by the cruise ship port which draws large crowds, but if you're... More

The market is essentially the same type of souveniers you would see at any other island shopping area (shotglasses, magnets, shirts, trinkets) with the exception of all the straw baskets. We stopped there at the end of our tour - as we were curious to see how it looks. We spent approx 3 mins inside: it's covered, poorly lit, with long narrow corridors and it smells bad. The things they sell there are your regular touristy things, nothing that would attract me.

The Straw Market is in a new modern building since we visited last. Still the same type stuff as before. Lots of China stuff. Kinda felt sorry for the ladies selling in there, it was almost like they were begging at times.
