    Great educational and fun experience
Went to Ft Charlotte doing a little sightseeing. When we got there we met Michelle Young. Not only did we see the Fort, we learned so much about its history and the history of the Bahamas. That woman could be a historian. But besides that she is professional, funny, down to earth and a great person. Michelle is a great ambassador for the Fort and country as a whole. I will go back again to see Michelle and see what else she can teach me about THANK YOU MICHELLE!!!!

    Visiting Fort Charlotte
I took my four year old grandson to visit Fort Charlotte. He was learning about Bahamian landmarks at school. He enjoyed it! Michelle Young was our guide and tried to make it interesting for a four year old. She was wonderful! She broke down the information in small bits so that he could understand it and remember the important parts. He came home and was able to give his mom and grandfather a good history lesson. Thanks to our awesome guide Michelle!

    Michelle young- great tour guide
Michelle young was a great help, she walked us through the whole fort and was extremely engaging and knowledgeable. She is extremely passionate about the history of the Bahamas. Make sure you bring tipping cash and 11 dollars each for the entrance fee. Honestly seeing the marks of the chisel that made this for really brings you back. I love walking places that make you imagine a different time when machinery like today was not around. Must see if you love history.

    Learn Nassau History
Fort Charlotte is an important part of the history of the Bahamas. Our tour guide, Michelle Young, was friendly and knowledgeable. She showed us many interesting facets of the fort. I had never seen cannons like these that could be aimed over a 180 degree range (front wheels on small circular tracks, rear wheels on large-diameter tracks). Great views of the harbor and surroundings -- of course, that's why the fort was built in that location.

What a great visit. Worth the trip there.
We decided to walk from the cruise port to Fort Charlotte and it took maybe 20mins. Once there we were immediately greeted by Michelle Young who informed us she was to be our tour guide. Well I have to tell you this, she was outstanding from the start of the tour, she was very informative but also made the learning very interactive. She took so many pictures for us on my phone so we can remember this day forever. Honestly I can’t recommend this place enough it’s fantastic but what made it for us was the professional approach Michelle took but still made it so informative.

    Cool historical fort in Nassau
This is a cool, large fort overlooking Nassau. There are very informative exhibits with information about the fort in different locations. Our tour guide Michelle Young did a great job showing us around the fort and providing the background history of the fort, as well as taking our pictures. Thanks!

    Carved fort
Fort Charlotte is the largest of Nassau’s three historic forts, but it is still not very large and not especially historic as it was never in a battle. Only a portion of the Fort and several connected forts is accessible. The main interest in this Fort is that rather than being built brick-by-brick, it was carved by hand out of a limestone hill in the 18th Century. The accessible areas include the ramparts and several underground rooms that were used as prisons and to store powder and as barracks. The deep well is also there. There’s a short guided tour (for which you are expected to tip), but I’d just take the self-guided tour and read the signs, which say everything the guide did and more, and you can go at your own pace.

    Wonderful experience!
The tour of Fort Charlotte was great - mostly due to the knowledge and interaction we had with our tour guide Michelle Young. She was full of facts and kept us involved up to the end with q&a and trivia. She is definitely an asset to Fort Charlotte and Nassau. Thank you Michelle!!

    Excellent
Went for a tour of Fort Charlotte in the Bahamas and it’s worth your time. Our guide was Michelle Young and she was phenomenal. She’s very knowledgeable about the fort’s history and was funny and engaging. She made it fun for everyone. It is by far the most interesting fort we’ve seen - and we’ve seen many.

We decided to explore Nassau and several of its historic sites rather than opt for the tourist attraction that most people flock to when docked from a cruise ship. This is one of those sites that is easily within walking distance (if it is not too hot). When we arrived, there was only one other small group there, which is so surprising given the significance of this site. The fort is well-preserved and walking down into the various chambers allows the visitor to see several exhibits that explain how and why the British built the fort and why it was so strategically important. The legacy of this fort is one that should definitely be feeding the local economy.

I went with my husband who is a history buff and especially loves military history. We were lucky to have Michelle Young as our guide. She was so knowledgeable and passionate about the history of Fort Charlotte. Michelle painted a picture of what it would have been like during that time and weaving in stories. I truly felt like I was experiencing a moment in history walking the old forts. My husband loved it and also thought it was the best tour we have had. Thanks Michelle!

Our guide on the tour was Michelle Young, and she was extremely engaging, as well as informed about the history of the fort. She will keep your attention and show you many of the details you might otherwise miss. It's not a long tour, so even on a very hot day like when we toured, it's pretty manageable, and the interior of the fort is quite cool, albeit still humid. There's a lot tying the fort's history and the island's history to the UK and the US, especially, but also France and Spain, so if you have a background related to any of those countries, you'll learn something on this tour.

There's not enough to do in Nassau that isn't just shopping, so this is well worth the mile walk or taxi drive to go pay it a visit. Very photogenic views of the city and the harbor.

We were pleaseantly surprised by this fort. I knew ahead of time that I wanted to visit this fort while in Nassau, but really had no idea what to expect. We were greeted at the gift shop and ticket sales by the lady that would give us the very in depth tour. Her name was Michelle Young, and she must have been a retired teacher, because she knew all about the fort, the history of the island, many interesting stories about the people who built the fort, and military leaders. Our tour guide even took many family pictures of us with my phone in interesting places around the fort. This is a must visit place if you are going to Nassau. We visited the island on a cruise, and Fort Charlotte is about a 30 min. walk from the dock, past Junkanoo Beach. The entry fee is less than $6 a person, and it's nice to tip your tour guide at the end. We were free to roam around by ourselves after the tour was complete. This was the best money I spent in Nassau, a very good deal! We were there for probably 1.5 to 2 hours.

What a beautiful experience. I learned so much about history and saw some real cool things. The highlight of our tour was the tour guide Michelle Young, she was gracious and witty and made the place come alive to us with great stories and personal pride in her history of the Bahamas. 6 stars for Michelle. Ask for her when you go.

If you like historical forts this is a must do. Walkable from cruise ships/downtown. Hand carved limestone rooms are beautifully preserved and the history was interesting. $5.50 admission charge, payable at the gift shop - first building on your right. Tour guide Michelle Young was GREAT! Passionate and a wonderful teacher. Tips are expected.

This is an important historic place with exhibits well laid out describing the fort's construction and history, as well as what life was like living there. It also lays out the history of the competition among the English, Spanish, French and (later) Americans for control of the region. The day I was there, there were 3 large cruise ships in port and downtown Nassau was saturated with passengers and hucksters. The fort was a welcome respite -- I was the only one there (although a small group arrived as I was leaving). It's walking distance to the Fish Fry street, and parking in the area is easy.
