Our timing wasn't great, riding the rails on the tail end of Storm Doris, but we had a lot of fun on this cute little railway. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. We had a bit of time to look around the (tired and not running) model railway and the children's play area at the station before departure. The... More

The volunteers do a great job keeping the engines and carriages sparkling clean; the cafe offers snacks and delicious coffees, a small film to watch while sitting inside, plenty of reading material and gifts. Situated in the Mawddach Estuary the views looking inland are stunning, until one arrives at the end of the line where the views open up across... More

Today was our second visit to the fairbourne railway, as we giftaided our first Visit back in July, it entitled us to 12 months free travel which made today's visit free, this makes excellent value for money. Staff really friendly, and the journey although not huge in length is very nice. Worth catching the water taxi across to Barmouth at... More

Staying on the south side of the Barmouth estuary we decided to park at Fairbourne station and take the train to meet the ferry and spend the day in Barmouth. It was a great mini adventure and our dog loved it too. The train moves very slowly, but it allows you to enjoy the ride for longer. Trains ran on... More

The trip at a modest £9.50 for adult and £4.50 for children I felt was well worth the visit for that you could ride all day the journey takes you to the estuary at barmouth where you can then take a small boat ferry at £2 per person across to barmouth a most enjoyable and charming day out!

Travelled as a family with my grandson, tickets expensive for what you get but, if you gift aid your fare, the ticket lasts for 12 months of travel. Fairbourne is fairly dingy with no real attractions except for a convenience store and a couple of takeaways. The station for the railway at Fairbourne is fairly basic, there is a shop,... More

The most direct access to the Fairbourne Miniature Railway is to take the ferry from Barmouth harbour. This runs on demand with a turnaround time of about ten minutes. When we saw the little boat - eight passengers at a push - bobbing up and down at the foot of the steps we did wonder at the wisdom of trying... More

There is lots of choice for steam railways around the area. This one is very scenic and not too long . Perfect to hold the attention of a youngest. Staff are friendly. And the facilities are good. Combined with the ferry boat to or from Barmouth , it's quite an adventure!!!
