Hiding in the foothill of Dundrum village is the ancient Dundrum Castle remains. Some great views from the Castle grounds, there's also a brisk woodland walk round the back and sides of the castle remains and who doesn't enjoy a visiting an actual real life castle. You just can't beat it!

This castle lies above town and gives fabulous views over the Bay. Indeed I see that as the main reason for visiting. Entry was free when we visited (maybe it always is?) There is not a great deal left but the central keep is still quite imposing and the scale and positioning of other key features still evident. We couldn't access that due to covid restrictions

I hidden gem along the coast. Grab some fish and chips at the shop below and picnic in this very special place. It and the park surrounding were magical.

This is an impressive castle with a nice view of the beaches and water below. If you're following Google maps from the north though, I would avoid the first road to the castle as it is a very rocky track. I turned back and the next turn had a normal road up the hill.

Dundrum Castle is a castle, situated above the town of Dundrum, County Down, Northern Ireland, It was constructed by John de Courcy, sometime near the beginning of the 13th century,[2] following his invasion of Ulster. The castle, built to control access into Lecale from the west and south, stands on the top of a rocky hill commanding fine views south over Dundrum Bay and the Mourne Mountains, the lands west towards Slieve Croob and the plains of Lecale to the east.

Spent a lovely night in our Motorhome, local chipper will deliver.

Very nice castle, and not completely in ruins. You can even climb to the top and enjoy the amazing views over the sea.

We were the only ones to visit the castle. It is incredible with a lovely view of Dundrum when you climb on top of it, and it is a 7 minute walk from the center of Dundrum.

From the parking lot people of all ages and abilities can gain access to the site of these castle ruins. It is obvious why this location was chosen in the 1200s for the site of the castle. The view is expansive. If you are a photog. you will appreciate this site.

Fantastic views of the surroundings with a view of the Dundrum estuary looking south. Connecting to the carpark is the walking track which is a nice option although we didn't walk it. Parking yes and plenty of it. Free yes. Kid friendly yes. Toilets no.
