Highly recommend this place to visit for a tour and to stay in one of their excellent apartments. The guided tour of the Castle was excellent. Lots of interesting information and artefacts to see. The accommodation was absolutely lovely. Everything was supplied that we needed. The staff were friendly and helpful including photo copying maps of the local walks. Lauder within walking distance where good shops and cafes restaurants etc . All COVID compliant.

There are many restrictions due to Covid at the moment but if you are able to get away then do try a stay at the appartments at the castle. There are measures in place that make you feel safe without forfeiting the experience you will get staying in such a lovely place full of history. Also this is one of the most dog friendly places we have stayed in with area around the castle and beyond to walks.

From first email contact with the wonderful Jacqueline to our welcome on arrival by Colin, and fabulous tour of the Castle with Eugene, the whole experience was fantastic. The Lauderdale self-catering apartment is beautifully decorated with gorgeous furnishings. It was immaculate on arrival and our pre-ordered extras were delicious. A lovely view across the parkland was made even more special when we saw a family of deer having an early morning stroll on our last day. The team are so friendly and helpful, we were made to feel at home from the outset. It really was a wonderful way to spend a long birthday weekend. This is a very special place, and we will definitely be back very soon.

This fabulous XVII century castle only properly opened its doors to staying guests in March 2020, just before the Covid lockdown. As such we were rather fortunate to manage to secure their best suite at relatively short notice. The Earl and Countess is one of the three suites located in the castle proper and the only one on the second floor. It is a bit of a climb with heavy luggage to get there, but it was well worth it. The rooms were magnificently attired, with tasteful, period furniture, family portraits and photos and even tapestries hanging in the spacious lounge. The views of the expansive lawn and beyond were just superb. Beds were generous and very comfortable. Two of the rooms were en-suite and the third had the use of a large bathroom. The kitchenette, on the side of the main lounge, is well equipped though on the small size if you are planning to do proper cooking. There are no catering facilities within the castle for staying guests, which suited us well, although the friendly staff are only too happy to oblige with locally sourced take-aways and breakfast fare. We found the Butchers Breakfast Pack great value for money.

If you are looking for a very special place to stay, then look no further than the apartments at Thurlstane Castle. Having been to visit the castle on a number of occasions, it was great to see that some of the rooms had been restored to accommodate guests. And the restorations are of the finest quality. The rooms have been tastefully furnished with portraits of the Maitland family, and furniture from within the castle. There are some lovely walks within the castle grounds, and a choice of activities for the adventurous. Everyone we met at the castle were fantastic, especially Jacqueline, Colin and our castle guide, Mr. Mc.Vitie. We are already planning our next (longer) stay for 2021! Before I forget we stayed in the Glenburnie apartment.
