Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Roger gave 3 of us a complete beginner afternoon lesson at Davochfin Farm, he was very patient! The location he chose was perfect for us, we went home very satisfied with 3 trout and a son who would now like to fish more.
A highly recommended experience that made up part of our Scottish holiday,
thank you Roger

Just got back from Scotland and had a great day fishing with Rodger from TroutQuest. He was very knowledgeable of the area . He met my cruise ship, and supplied the needed equiptment. Great scenery...and the weather and fish cooperated!!!

A work colleague invited me up to fish the Alness a few years ago, my first time fly fishing! Roger was a fantastic tutor, patient and incredibly knowledgeable and got me my first salmon one morning and another in the afternoon.

Having been lucky enough to return a few times I always look forward to more advice from Roger and spending time in the beautiful Alness surroundings.

My spouse and I are veteran anglers having fly fished venues from Alaska to the Bahamas. We booked Roger to pursue Scottish browns during a recent visit to Scotland. We found Roger engaging, knowledgeable about both the fly fishing and the angling history of the area. In fact, after fishing the Alness for browns, the next day he took us on an informative salmon tour of the area focusing on the history of Atlantic salmon fishing around Tain, Scotland. Based on our experience we can highly recommend Roger for both veteran and beginning fly fishers.

As a novice fly fisherman I booked Roger Dowsett to give me a full day lesson on Loch Cam in Assynt. I found his tuition to be excellent, covering casting techniques, hatching recognition and matching the fly, locating the trout, and finally catching them.I learnt a huge amount and Roger was great fun to be with.

Thanks for your review Martin, it was a great day, which I also enjoyed very much. I hope we can do something similar next time you are in the Highlands.

Having salmon fished worldwide, I can wholeheartedly recommend Mr Dowsett and the fishing on the Alness. His professionalism and skill is as good as I have seen anywhere and the river and surrounds are stunning

I have trout fly fished with Troutquest many times and thoroughly recommend them. Roger, the owner/manager is an excellent organiser and fishing guide, and he has a range of fantastic lochs and rivers you can fish for wild brown trout, and options for begiiners to fish easier waters and get casting and fishing lessons

I have been fly fishing for many years for trout and salmon but every time I have a session with Roger Dowsett of TroutQuest I come away casting better and with increased knowledge! He managed to get my aged father casting well and guided him to his first salmon at the age of 83! Also taught my nephew to fish and got him his first salmon last year!

I have used Roger's guiding and tuition services for a number of corporate trips and everyone has always commented on his expertise and how much his presence has enhanced the experience.

All in all, if you are interested in having a go at fly fishing, or want to improve your skills and knowledge, you will not find anyone better to help you. To top it off, he's also very nice and interesting chap!

I have used Troutquest for guided fly fishing trips near Inverness and the Scottish Highlands on many occasions. They provide us with fishing permits for the best rivers and lochs around Inverness, and the fishing guides are knowledgeable and friendly. Roger is a great guide and spending a day with him is a thoroughly enjoyable experience and you will also learn a lot. He has a real passion for fly fishing. If you get a chance to spend a day or two salmon fishing on the River Alness takes some beating and he has brilliant trout lochs in his portfolio.

Thinking I could cast a fly and fish since my youth, I went in search of some professional advice to bring me back up to speed in later life. What I got was a realisation that not only did I not know how to cast, but the equipment I had cherished all these years was as vintage as I had become. I found enlightenment and was born again into a whole new world of modern equipment, rods and reels that seemed almost weightless, fly line that shot off the end of the rod at speed then turned and presented the fly in a way I had never imagined. Almost miraculously and in very short order I had become a fly fisherman again, fired with enthusiasm and new found skills, thanks to TroutQuest.
Since this initial encounter I have fished numerous rivers and Lochs, been on trips to Orkney and the Uists ( the outer Hebrides) with TroutQuest their knowledge of where and when and how to fish in the highlands is second to none they have a wealth of information covering in excess of 300 locations.
If you want to learn to fly fish, or you are an experienced angler needing a guide, or you need information on the best rivers and beats or the type of fly to use in order to catch a quality fish in Scottish waters. Take my personal advice and through my experience, make TroutQuest your first port of call, they will lead you to some fantastic fly fishing venues in the Highlands of Scotland.
TIGHT LINES.
