Coquet Shorebase Trust is a water activity centre and we aim to make getting involved accessible for everyone. At our main centre at The Braid, Amble you can take part in canoe or kayak tours of the estuary looking at the wildlife, geology and history of the area from the water. We also offer powerboat courses so you can learn to handle a craft safely and receive a qualification. From our base at Druridge Bay Country Park, next to the visitor centre, you can hire kayaks, canoes, paddle boards, windsurfers and sailing dinghies to use on the lake. We are also able to offer dedicated instruction in both adult and children's activities Wetsuits, buoyancy aids and helmets are all provided and we have hot showers at both locations for when you come off the water. No experience is necessary for most activities but you do need to contact the office by phone or email to book so we can make sure that we can provide the best experience for you We look forward to welcoming you.

Very enjoyable estuary paddle led by Ken. We improved greatly over the journey. Great value for a 4 hour experience with a guide who is knowledgeable not only about kayaking but local history and wildlife as well. Would certainly do it again .

We had an excellent evening ‘sunset’ tour up the Coquet last week (and there was a sunset!). Our guide Andrew was funny, engaging, interesting and good company. Everything was very well organised; full attention to Covid measures at all times - guide stuck to maximum 5 paddlers in the group (unlike another group we saw on the river!) and all cleaning done evidently properly. Good ‘wildlife’ viewed including leaping Sea Trout and Eider ducks. And then today 4 lovely photos arrived. We will return!

we had booked a kayak trip and all communications with the staff were great. on the day we turned up and our guide was Leo. We were all total novices and unfortunately once we had got kitted up i chickened out and choose not to go. the other 2 of our group went out and appeared to be doing really well. They reported the scenery was lovely and an interesting perspective from the river. However both of them capsized on the return leg. Due to the professionalism and calm manner that Leo dealt with what could have been a scary event means that it actually turned into almost a 'highlight' generating much laughter and making the tour more memorable - not often one can say that . It was a great afternoon and although we wont be trying the experience again we can honestly say we had a great time and we would 100% recommend the experience:) Just wondering if a flatter more sit on type of vessel would have been better for novices?

Andrew was a great guide on our estuary tour today. He was so patient with our children and a good laugh. His genuine passion for kayaking shines through. It is a really beautiful stretch of water, we saw herons, eider ducks, mallard ducklings, buzzards and loads of fish jumping. Beautiful day, couldn't have been any better.

This was a great estuary trip from Amble to Warkworth and I would definitely recommend this to a wide range of ages. It was very safe and all necessary equipment provided. We had a quick lunch on the trip which was enjoyable too. It's a pretty journey and we thought it was good value for money. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and made sure all of the group was involved in the trip and taken care of.

We'd like to thank Hamish and the team for a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon on the water. We didn't know what to expect, especially with the heavy rain earlier in the day and thunderstorms forecast. But as we arrived, the skies started to clear just in time for us to paddle towards Warkworth Castle. The kids (13 and 14) both had a great time in their own kayaks, while the despite the best attempts of our 3 year old labrador to capsize us, my wife and I remained safe and dry in the canoe. Thanks again for a brilliant experience, would definitely recommend it and the friendly team at Coquet Shorebase Trust. We will definitely be back next year.

Excellent tour of estuary and river upstream of Amble . Equipment and Covid measures all to a high standard . Booking very easy thanks to Hilary. Andy was our instructor and he was engaging, knowledgeable , good company and funny. Was impressed by fact instructors stuck to recommended group size and safety was always paramount . Lots of wildlife to see and Andy had lots of local history facts to share . Also his steak pie and takeaway suggestions were spot on ! 😋 Three teenagers also really enjoyed the tour . Highly recommend .

Brilliant afternoon kayaking/canoeing up the Coquet estuary, Andrew was a great guide to the local history and nature, and great fun too. We ranged from 5 to 70, but all felt safe and supported throughout, and enjoyed (mostly) beautiful weather and spectacular scenery. Great fun, thankyou!!

Highly recommended kayak trip for families led by Andrew. Hugely enjoyable, informative and entertaining morning paddling on the estuary at Amble. All four of our family (including our eight year old and twelve year old daughter's) enjoyed this trip. We learned about the history of the area, local wildlife and picked up some paddling techniques.

Andrew was an exceptional guide. He was friendly and helpful from the start so that we all felt confident trying something new. During the trip he was extremely informative and kept us engaged with his local knowledge and unique stories! I felt he was aware of our safety throughout the trip and we were in safe hands.

We had a lovely afternoon with Leo on the estuary. Leo was very knowledgable about the local area and very patient with myself and my son because we were a little slower due to my son being a not very strong paddler and myself being totally inexperienced. The COVID restriction in place meat that we went out in a group of 5 which was lovely. We saw rainbow trout jumping out of the water. Herons, swans, cormorants and many other wildlife. Felt so invigorated afterward. It was the best day of our holiday by far. We will deffo be back for another experience in the future. 😀
