Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

A very somber but beautiful place to visit while in Maui. Supposably Charles Lindbergh was against the United States entering World War 2, So he moved to the territory of Hawaii.
Not the easiest drive: but if you can take the road to Hana- you should be able to take the drive to the church. You can barely see the church from the road. He is buried in the small cemetery behind it, Lots of beautiful scenery at this location. You are welcome to go inside the church located by the graveyard.

This place is not marked and no one will really tell you how to get here. I had been here once before about 30 years ago so knew about it. If you google map it you know just what to do. The grave is at a Congregational church on a back one lane road. There is no signage so you have to be prepared before going. There were tour vans here.

when driving at mile marker 41 south of Lahaina, stopping at church, we parked at the church , his grave is on ground there. He's important man in nature science and biology , but his grave is not made as important point.

Yes the grave site is difficult to find. It is exactly one mile (1.6kms) from the seven sacred pools which are not not considered sacred by anyone. After you find a place to park go into the Congregational Church and see the stained glass window of Christ. Take a picture. Go back outside the church and head towards the ocean until you see the grave site covered with lava rocks. Simple and stunning. But the real reason to come here is a 2 minute walk to Kipahulu Point for an award-winning picture of the mighty surf crashing down below. Talk about a view!

You will not see a sign to his grave site. There is a sign on the main road that reads "PALAPALA HO'OMAU Congregational Church." Turn left here!
Since our last visit in 2012, the road to the cemetery has been re-paved! The ruts and pot-holes are no more. Also, the ranch on the right is for sale. It was a beautiful working ranch in 2012.
Visiting this famous grave site four different times, we have come to appreciate the serenity of Kipahulu. Just a mile further from the Seven Sacred Pools is this most over-looked historical grave sites.
Bill Bryson book, 1927, given an excellent portrayal of Lindbergh’s famous flight. It is Lindbergh’s extra marital affairs, love of the early Nazi’s and his elitist attitude that I object too. Nevertheless, I respect what the man did back in 1927. Plenty of people lost lives before and after Lindbergh’s epic 33 hour flight trying to cross the Atlantic Ocean.
Our first sojourn to Lindbergh's grave was in 1998. We drove at least five miles past the cemetery thinking there would be a sign. My wife convinced me to turn around and ask a local. She was so mad at me she didn't even get out of the car when we finally arrived. We were victims of "the Road to Hana.
At the end of this short road, not too far from the main road where you turned left, is a beautiful small Church. When you look right, you can see the Pacific. Lindbergh fell in love with this area.
A short walk will get you to Lindbergh's grave. There are six smaller graves close by which are a friends Asian gibbons.
In reality, there are not too many people buried here. Along the fence which protects you from going over the cliff, is the grave of Robert Deming. His gravestone says, "Success is in the journey, not in the destination."
Charles A. Lindbergh died at the age of 72 in 1974. You will not find his wife buried here, Anne Morrow Lindbergh, as she died in Vermont in 2001. She was cremated and her ashes scattered. The son is buried in New Jersey.
Charles Lindbergh could have chosen anywhere in the world to be buried. He chose this remote area outside of Hana, overlooking the Pacific Ocean, on a high cliff facing east towards the rising sun. You can see why.

We stopped here while on a “Road to Hana” tour. This is the Palapala Ho’omau Church grounds. It is located just past Oheo Gulch on the Hana Highway at mile marker 41. There's a small sign for the church but the sign is easy to miss. Lindbergh's grave is a simple one and sits under a Java plum tree. Nearby you will find monkeys buried in the cemetery as well. A further walk through the cemetery takes you to a nice picnic area overlooking the incredible Maui coast line The church is located on the coast. The site is very picturesque and tranquil. The site was quite simple for such an important person. If you walk to the park next to the church you can get some amazing views, including magnificent views of the ocean and the coastline.

Visiting the grave of Charles Lindbergh was a sombre reminder of a sad past. Since he helped the Germans improve the length of time planes could stay in the air, apparently, there was quite a bit of animosity felt by the pilot, even though he helped the Americans improve their planes when they got involved in the war. Charles Lindbergh's grave shows a peaceful grave in Hana, where person of celebrity, notoriety, or simple and unknown, were treated all the same.

In the cemetery of the Palapala Church (separate review) is the last resting place of Charles Lindbergh, aviator. Buried here in 1974, the grave is a large but simple low memorial, decorated by some trinkets left by visitors (flight bars, flowers, shells and badges). According to my husband's research, he was buried there unembalmed and barefoot, with his plane cushion and his mother's blanket - information I found strangely touching. A lovely way to end a big hiking day with a little peace and reflection.

Visiting this famous grave site three different times, we have come to appreciate the serenity of Kipahulu. Just a mile further from the Seven Sacred Pools is this most over-looked historical grave. I was surprised that only a dozen or so people have made reviews on T. A..
Our first sojourn to Lindbergh's grave was in 1998. We drove at least five miles past the cemetery thinking there would be a sign. My wife convinced me to turn around and ask a local. She was so mad at me she didn't even get out of the car when we finally arrived. We were victims of "the Road to Hana."
There is a sign on the main road that reads "PALAPALA HO'OMAU Congressional Church." Turn left here! There is another sign to the right that says, "Private Property." It is confusing. This short road will have ruts and pot-holes, narrow in areas, you may have to go from side to side and the finally the road turns to gravel. I get the impression that they may not want you to visit!

My wife and I in 2012 did get out of the car (no arguments this time!). She loves the county park adjacent to the cemetery, Kipahulu Point Park. There is a picnic table with gorgeous views.

Once you have braved the road to Hana it would be ashame to not continue a few more miles to Lindberg's grave. Beautiful and peaceful the graveyard not only gives one the perfect opportunity to give the kids a hisory lesson but the view, trees and flowers all around his grave is worth it. I have posted a picture of the only sign...it is easy to miss so do a little research and continue past Hana and I think you will be glad you will be glad yo did it.

Are you able to turn left off the Hana Highway and park at the church to view his grave?
Written 28 December 2016
Depending on the day and the time you happen to stop at the church will determine just how close you can park. Just remember it's exactly one mile (1.6kms) from the sacred pools (that aren't sacred).
