Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Beautiful views from the top. Steep steps to reach the top but manageable. You can visit inside the church and walk around the grounds outside . Worth a visit if passing near the village .

This is the only fortified church in the region opened on Mondays and Tuesdays.
It is located at the top of an easily foot-accessible forrested hill.
The view to the mountainous surroundings is exquisite.
The church interior is not terribly interesting.

Built in the XIIth century the fortified basilica of Cisnadioara is the oldest fortified church in the region of Transylvania.
Visiting is fairly easy - opens everyday at 10 o'clock until 19:00 - even more during the summer if there are visitors.
Parking can be done easily in the nearby parking lot - free of charge. Visiting fee is 8 Ron/adult - just under 2 Euro - so very pocket friendly.
To get to the church you need to climb a few hundred steps on concrete stair - but you can rest on the benches that are placed along the path.
As you arrive to the church there are signs with QR codes - so you can access the link to get some guidance - and it is detailed I can assure you. (Especially interesting the story of the Wedding Stones - I won't spoil the surprise - check it out for yourselves)
The views from above are spectacular - the view of the valley bellow is just great - definitely a climb worth doing.
When you are in Sibiu take the time and visit Cisnadioara - it is worth it.

The fortified church is located on the top of the hill in Cisnadioara. A large parking area is available nearby.
The entrance fee is around 2 €.
The visit starts with a concrete pathway going uphill. A few benches are placed near the pathway in order to allow the visitors to get some rest or to enjoy the nature.
You can admire the fortified wall and the church.

We did a a days cycle trip, visiting Răşinari, Cisnadie and Cisnadoara near Sibiu.

Really worth it, great countryside and lovely Saxon villages

The walk up to the fortified church is fairly steep but short. Great views , not surprising bearing in mind it’s function.

Haven't visited here since I was a child. There is a bit of a climb up, but it is perfectly manageable. The fortified church is just as spectacular as I had remembered it. Definitely worth a visit if you're staying in Sibiu for a few days.

This is a fortified church at the very top of a very steep hill. There is a stepped path. The views at the top are lovely. The church itself is interesting, but very plain.

For a small charge this is well worth the walk up the hill. Peaceful, quiet, evocative and cool inside with stunning views outside towards the mountains and over the village

It might be the climb through the forest, the low stone wall surrounding the hilltop, the austere interior or the breathtaking views of the valley, but Cisnadioara impressed me the most out of all the fortified churches in Transylvania. There's a feeling of serenity sitting on the benches, watching the surrounding valleys and hills. I feel this church has no place in time, instead it belongs to a legend. This might seem pretentious, but if you like mysterious and romantic places, definitely go to Cisnadioara.

The fortified church is located near Cisnadioara village, a very beautiful site on the very top of a steep hill. Living nearby, I visited this church a few times every year since I was a child, mostly during the hot summer days. A few years ago, the thick forest on the hill would provide a cool, refreshening air. As of today, the incompetent administration of the fortified church, decided to cut down half of the trees, build an ugly platform and charge expensive tickets. Actually I am not even sure that the rude young lady that charges the tickets has the legal right to do this. Maybe the police should check. Otherwise, they don’t do the required maintenance of the building. It is a pity that such an ancient site is destroyed by people. I will never go back, because I remember how beautiful the site was a few years ago and how the administration destroyed the forest now.
