FULL DAY BIRDING AND BOAT RIDE IN NAL SAROVAR
Nal Sarovar Bird Sanctuary is Ramsar site which is around 65 km from Ahmedabad. This is a very vast wetlands with numerous resident and migartory birds like river terns , Common Cranes, Spoon Bills,Egrets,Cormorants,Sea Gulls,Sandpipers,Ruddy Shelducks etc. Nal Sarovar is a true Paradise for Bird Lovers, Watchers & Bird Photographers. I visited Nal Sarovar on 02 Dec 2023. After searching various bird forums and trip advisor I finally contacted Sikander from Nal Sarovar. Sikander is a Boatman and nature lover. He has a large number of Boats in which arranges boat rides in Nal Sarovar. I hired Sikander for Half day Bird watching and Half day Boat ride. He is a very genuine person and charges very economical price for full lake trip boating covering all the points. His guidance and his patience and expertise over the lake and position, location & knowledge of birds over the lake is remarkable. There was number of bird species we came across the lakes, esp mentioned Great White Pelican, Brown Headed Gull,White Breasted Waterhen,Common Teal, Openbill Stork, Grey Heron, Purple Swamphen,Osprey etc. After the boat ride you can relish on Pure Freshly cooked Kutchi Kathiawvadi lunch at the middle of the island. The best time to visit Nal Sarovar Sanctuary is early in the mornings. Nal Sarovar opens at 6am in the morning. Please try to reach as early in the morning to enjoy it. Sikandar my boatman and bird guide was a very friendly & knowledgeable and a polite person. The day spent with him in Birding and Boat ride was was very pleasant and I enjoyed a lot. One can call him to plan the trip in advance. Sikander can be reached at 9016598324 .. enjoy your visit !!!

    Amazing place to see birds
Absolutely amazing place. So many birds and the opportunity to go out on a punt boat to see more. The staff were welcoming and so helpful, especially the warden David. The food at the outdoor cafe was lovely.

"Stop paying anything to boat hoody. They are Misleaders. The boatsmen don't get anything rather pay the boat driver tip of 100 or 200 to the boat driver."
"Badly disappointed and frustrated"
Will advice that don't pay the boatsmen or bargain with them.
As per the ticket they are suppose to take you to a round of two hours and an island .
If they are not doing then you can complain about it. They will ask for the ticket, don't give them. Say after the ride you will give it.
Boating is private and not of government and they are looting people like anything.
We think if we don't pay they will not show the places, but we had a talk with the forest officer, he said the boat will take you to the island which is half an hour ride and back another half an hour back. 1 hour is for the island visit.
The area is restricted and they can't go beyond it . There is no 3 or 6 stops. Everything comes on the way to the island.

The bird sanctuary is an amazing place to visit for all wildlife photographers and bird lovers. Personal boats are available on rent there which will take you all around the lake for a view of the many birds that migrate there. The best time to visit the sanctuary is either early morning (6-7 PM). The ride of the major part of the lake takes almost 2 to 3 hours.
There is also an island on the lake where you can have your breakfast in a typical gujarati meal.
It can be visited in both summers and winters as there are different birds during both the seasons

A magnificent peaceful wetland with fantastic birds. We observed more than 30 species in around two and a half hours, much of which we spent sitting and watching. We had limited time so took a short boat tour. A hassle to sort out the boat ride, but once out on the water our boatman was great and had a good knowledge of the birds which he was happy to share.

We visited with family. We reached at 8in morning. There were few birds but the experience of riding small boat was magical. Also the food which is available on island in middle of nalsarovar is excellent. You have to bargain with the boatman. We paid 3500/for 4persons. He was very friendly knowledgable person who made our trip worthwhile. Please try to reach as early in the morning to enjoy it. Nalsarovar opens at 6in the morning.

"Paradise for bird lovers"
Extraordinary place for bird lovers. You will get several rare species of birds outside the lake within 20-30 km. But, you have to appoint a guide. I have visited several times and found that the best guide is Mr. Sabbir (Ph. No. 9724981586-mob.), who first found/discovered the Namaqua dove in Nal Sarovar region and helped me to photographed it along with several other rare bird species. You may contact him for better searching of birds and photography purpose.
