Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Steve welcomed us with friendly enthusiasm and kitted us up with our 3 seater Canadian Canoe.
The setting is gorgeous, peaceful and pure escapism.
The occasional canal boat meandered by, but the water was wide enough for no dramas.
Perfect foraging of blackberries to be had from the boat too to keep energy levels up.
Four hours of perfect weather, scenery - it was joyous.
Lunch at Annie's Cafe afterwards was also lovely, but that's another review!
There are week day discounts on online bookings, so I recommend that you take advantage before end of season! Great value for money!

Canoeing along the Oxford Canal is incredibly peaceful, calming, and just plain fantastic. I've walked and run along the towpath many times and I know the area very well, but canoeing along the canal for the first time today was far more fun than I expected.
I booked a 2-seater canoe for me and my son over the phone a few days in advance. The canoes are very easy to get in and out of and are very stable and easy to manoeuvre. Life jackets provided but apart from that no need for any specialist clothing. Good, clear safety talk before we got into the canoes.
There are plenty of narrow boats moored along the canal and there were a couple going down the canal during the hour we were there with plenty of space for us to pass each other safely.
Lovely views as you move down the canal. We booked an hour so went to Enslow lock before turning back. You can book longer sessions and go beyond the lock and onto the Cherwell River.
I'd recommend canoeing here to anyone and I will definitely go again soon - next time I'll book a longer session and head up the river!
And if you're driving to Thrupp Canoe and Kayak Hire, there's plenty of parking space there, next to Annie's Tea Room.

Took a spontaneous camping trip down to Oxfordshire with no plans for the weekend. The weather was great so my boyfriend and I decided to find a place to go kayaking and found Thrupp Canoe and Kayak Hire. What an excellent time we had in a really beautiful and discrete location! The staff were wonderful, running through a safety talk, giving us life jackets and kayaks and then leaving us to our own devices. We even happened to be there the same day as a professional photographer who took some photos of us! There is a lovely local cafe and some local pubs to refuel after rowing through the beautiful canals. Would recommend to anybody in the local area.

We went as a family group along with my autistic son, booked three boats and turned up for our hour on the water.
Staff were well organised, helpful and knowledgeable. We had a fantastic time and the children are begging to go back again.
This is a fantastic activity to do and at a very reasonable cost.

Friendly and helpful staff. We had a 3 seater canoe for 4 hours at half price so made a pleasant afternoon.
Looking to come back to try kayaking with my kids ( on another half price deal) follow them on Facebook for offers

Steve runs a brilliant business. He was great in helping me book in advance, in checking on with me about the booking, and also liaising with the care next door. It was belting down with rain when we went today, but this didn’t dampen Steve’s hospitality or enthusiasm for boating. It’s also cracking value for money.

We loved our canoe experience at Thrupp Canoe and Kayak Hire today. We’d been before but not for a while - the boys loved sitting in front and guiding the boat. All well organised and everything is spotlessly clean. We had a lovely ice cream in Annie’s Tea Room next door too.

We had great fun going up the canal & back - two hours was about right for two energetic teenagers plus their aged parents (including portaging the kayaks round one lock). Just be aware that if you hire the sit-on kayaks you will get soaked from the knees down (paddles drip on you) and need a change of clothes afterwards! (We would have preferred the Canadian canoes, but despite several being pulled up on the bank when we set off, none had been available to book.) Staff were friendly and helpful, the safety briefing was good and clear, and there's a great tearoom to reward yourselves afterwards.

Steve, the guy running the kayak hire the day we were here was so friendly and helpful, and didn't rush us. I'd totally recommend taking canoes/kayaks out here. Friendly, professional, helpful, generous. And there's a FAB cafe right next door, and a couple of circular walks for anyone who doesn't want to canoe.

We had such fun at Thrupp. We had a canoe that all 4 of us could sit comfortably. Everyone involved was so kind, helpful and good health and safety advice like “try not to fall in”! Such a gorgeous day would definitely recommend going 😊

How many people fit in each canoe? Do you need an adult in each?
