Osimo, Italy
About Grotte di Osimo

We were lucky enough to see all 3 caves. The first cave was carved by the ancient tribe of the Piceni. The second cave was a venue for free mason congregations and initiations. The third cave was used by the templars. Our guide, Simona, was exceptional. She was kind, intelligent, and knowledgable. This visit was a MUST SEE. Especially if you can have Simona guide you.

My family and I really enjoyed the 45-minute tour -- which was offered in English -- of Le Grotte under the city of Osimo. We highly recommend this for anyone interested in a part of Italian history not as well known and very interesting!

With the tourist season slowing down, my wife and I were the only people taking the 1 hour tour of the cave tunnels below the town of Osimo. Lorenza was a fabulous tour guide who spoke excellent english. She pointed out many of the hidden features (no spoiler here) that were both amazing and fascinating. This tour is well worth it. Visit the Information center in the base of the north face of the old Roman city wall to get started. You will really enjoy the tour especially when she briefly gives you a sense of what is was like with no lights (only if you agree!).

I think these caves will impact everyone who visits them differently. They are a fascinating step back into history, religious, cultural, societal and spiritual. I was fortunate enough to be guided by Simona, who not only is a guide but has done much of the research into the caves. She is extremely knowledgeable and very sensitive to the interests of the person/people she is guiding and she is passionate about the caves and their diverse historical relevance. All I can say is visit these caves if ever you have a chance and be prepared to be surprised. There is as much of interest below the ground as there is above.

It was the beautiful place you can feel the history. There is a tour in English, you can ask it at the tourist information. The tour is about an hour and it must be your great experience! Me, I enjoyed very much with my guide, grazie Ms. Simone. If you go around the bar in Osimo, you may find the (€2 of) discount ticket. But I think €6 is proper fee.
