Lovely small castle, easy stairs and breathtaking view from top. Interesting audio, included I. Very reasonable entrance fee. Lovely ladies in the shop. Children will love this as small enough for them not to get bored and lots of little nooks and crannies. Lovely grounds to run about on too.

Unfortunately it was closed the day we were there but you can still get a feel for the place from the outside as it stands majestically on its hilly mound.

This was a real treat for me and my family. I wasn't expecting too much as I knew it was only a small castle but was pleasantly surprised. There is a small gift shop and the Orford Museum within the castle but no facilities such as toilets onsite. The castle itself is magnificent. There are lots of little passageways and... More

This Suffolk, coastal village is well worth a visit. It is set in glorious scenery and steeped in history. Henry the Second's stone keep castle is remarkably well preserved and the audio guide provided by English Heritage, really brings its history to life. The views out to sea from the top are stunning.

We decided to visit the castle this time in Orford after my parents recommended it. We have wandered round the outside of a few occasions, but during a recent stay at the nearby Jolly Sailor we decided to go inside to see for ourselves. Would recommend the audio tour...it's free once you have paid for entrance. The tour takes you... More

First visit here, on a grey drizzly February day, but well worth it. Incredibly well preserved Norman keep - we thought it would only need a short visit, but there's lots to see and think about and the audio tour is very informative. As other reviewers have said, there is some climbing to do, but in small stages so not... More

We were only able to walk round the base of the castle as it was a Bank Holiday and closed but saw quite enough to decide a full visit needed to be added to our agenda when we next return to Orford.

Appalling facilities for people with walking/climbing problems! OK, it's a castle, there are steep steps to get inside. However, you expect some effort to be made once inside, and you've paid your entrance fee! The first floor is large and circular, but all the parts mentioned in the guide require a 12inch step up! Not a single bit of wood/plastic... More
