Great, great and great!!! It's really a good place. The Tatacoa desert, which it isn't a real desert else a tropical dried forest because it has some vegetation also the Cactus 🌵. You can find the Xilópalos Valley, Red Cuzco, Tatacoa zoo (It's a valley called like that), The Astrosur Observatory and The Gray desert. It's hot and I recommend... More

I was able to visit the Tatacoa's Desert in Huila, Colombia with my boyfriend. The weather is friendly, if you enjoy the warm, because is not a desert. It's a dry tropical forest. I did not know that. It was the first surprise for me. It's quiet, with beautifull sightseens. The red and the grey were around of us. You... More

This is a beautiful and tranquil place. The red desert looks like it belongs to another planet. Don't miss the star gazing at the observatorium.

Very interesting visit, day trip from Neiva would be ok if you don't want to stare stars or have a longer hike. Collectivos cost 7000 cop from Neiva and in Villavieja you can take mototaxi with waiting and returning for 30000 - 35000 cop. Negotiate! Area around Cusco and Observatorio is the most beautiful. Los Hoyos are grey (mototaxi price... More

I stopped in Villavieja mainly to break up the long bus ride from San Agustin to Bogota. Villavieja is a typical one-horse town with few options for eating etc but the locals are very helpful. One thing to note is that there are very limited transport options back to Neiva from the desert on a Sunday - waited ages with... More

We were brought by two motorbikes to different trails along the road from Villavieja to the dessert. The trail at the campsite (Cusco?!) was amazing. The colours (red) of the landscape are amazing, the cactuses make the picture perfect. Although the "grey" part further on the road is less intense, the views are still incredible. The furthest stop we made... More

This is an interesting place to visit. You can walk amongst the dunes and see the erosion. It is easy to get to from Villavieja. Just get a tuk tuk.

It was a short visit but so worth it. The scenery are beautiful and something I have never seen before. definitely worth it. There are plenty of accommodation in the desert and you can rent bikes, do horse riding, hiking, and there are some swimming pools around where you can refresh from the heat for a little price. Definitely worth... More

Definitely worth a visit while traveling through colombia. We took a motortaxi with a guide (Elver) who could tell us a lot about the region and the plants. I would recommend taking a guide because it's incredibly hot and easy to get lost. And bring a hat and lots of sunscreen!
