Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The Artisans Market in Zihuatanejo has a lot of typical tourist junk, much of it made in China. There are also many hidden treasures, if you take the time to look and know what you are looking at. We have found great wooden Alebrije carvings from Oaxaca, Huichol beadwork on gourds and ceramics, hand-embroidered clothing. Never believe there is no good shopping in Zihua.

I have read where people think all the stuff is crap. of course it is, that is the great thing about this place. you don't need to know the language and the bartering is part of the fun you are in Acapulco and shopping while you have a corona. Just relax and have fun

This market can be confusing, annoying, and at times eerily quiet when the cruise ships aren't around. But it also a lot of fun. There are many shops there, selling everything from crude t-shirts to beautiful handcrafted jewelry.
I would tell you to get your game face on, and get ready to haggle. Bid LOW. Despite how much the vendors complain, if they sell it to you, they are making a profit. I stop in on every visit to Acapulco to buy souvenirs for friends and family.
Be prepared to say "No, thank you." a lot. Every vendor will try to get you into his shop, sometimes politely, sometimes more aggressively. Don't buy everything in the first store you go into!

It seemed that the vendors were over charging and selling cheap junk that one would get in a dollar store at home! This was an OK place to walk around but nothing special and no real bargains.

With the lack of cruise ships coming to Acapulco, this market has been hit fairly hard. A large number of stalls have closed, either for good, or only opening infrequently.
However the ones that are open hold great souvenirs, and you can haggle into some great prices!

And haggle we did! I really wanted that beautiful stone necklace with the unique silver mounting. It was expensive, but now, two months later, I wear that necklace with such pleasure. I have never seen anything like it, and would buy it again in a heartbeat. The proprietor clearly would like to have had a better margin of profit, but we both got what we wanted. I got a necklace I will treasure for some time, and he got a sale. And, by the way, my husband looks wonderful in the white shirt he purchased there!

Zihuatanejo - his mercardo de artesanias, his "fisherman" boardwalk" , his general market and a lot of streets around the "marina" worth a little trip. It gives a real flavor of Mexico and you can find a great choice of nice artesanias and restaurants. If you are in Ixtapa it's just a few minutes from there and the bus is just 9 pesos.

As any other market in Mexico, it's full of "stores" selling the same once and once again. And as in any market, you shouldn't get it all from the first place, because 5 steps ahead there will be someone selling it 5 pesos cheaper. Still, lots of things to see, lots of things to buy
