Definitely worth walking through the park and escape the hustle bustle of downtown Acapulco. The park is a good sized with lots of options including snack foods, small restaurants even a free swimming pool. It looks clean and well maintained.
Benches are located within the park for you to sit and relax and take in the solitude of a park. I noticed they do have security cameras located around the park to keep things safe and in order.

We visited Parque Papagayo in Jan. 2007. It's a pretty place to walk. The park is shaded, landscaped, and has many exhibits to look at, including islands with uncaged monkeys swinging through the trees! Also alligators and caimans, a lion, paddle boats and bicycle carriages for rent, children’s play areas, families strolling, teenagers necking, lakes, and pretty flowers.
There is a fenced area that is a combination of petting zoo, aviary, and mini-zoo. When the keeper, Benjamin, saw us debating whether it was open to the public, he graciously invited us in, gave us a little tour, and told us the park was “our house” to enjoy. What a nice guy! Some of the animals were rehabs that couldn’t survive in the wild. Benjamin had trained the coyote to jump up on a stand, and he showed us how the little Mexican foxes would beg him for dulce de leche candy. We were shaken down by a giant bunny that followed us around the enclosure, begging for snacks. There were also small deer and peafowl (including an albino peacock) running loose. Two jaguarundi, some raccoons, and several coatimundi were on display.
We enjoyed the park very much—and it’s free!

I last visited Parque Papagayo during April, 2006 and very much enjoyed the walk through the park, time spent amongst the families, the green grass and nice lagoons where people were in small boats enjoying themselves. The park is a welcome oasis, a surprise to many people who think Acapulco's just all about beaches. The park is conveniently located almost in the middle of Acapulco along Costera Miguel Aleman - across the street from the beach referred to as "Playa Papagayo."
There are various attractions within the park, some of which are not well maintained, though - mostly rides for small children. The lack of the attractions at the moment doesn't seem to have deterred the large number of families from visiting, though. In the mornings people can be found jogging, in the afternoon people cut-through the park as they make their way from the beach area to the residential/business area above the park near Avenida Cuauhtemoc.
I think most visitors will be favorabily impressed - as I am - with the niceness and tranquility of Parque Papagayo.

Very sad to see this park go to waste, I used to live in acapulco 10 years ago and I remember going to the park for a good place to relax and entertain. I went back last year May 2003, and it was so awful, all the artificial lakes were polluted with drainage, garbage ( tires, plastic containers, beer bottles etc. ) i saw several dead fish as well as fish stuck in all the plastic containers, there was a dead dog as well as dead birds. The grounds were dirty and smelled of sewer. The poor animals that were kept for display were in terrible condition as if they were sick. There was no lush gardens and grass as it once were, furthermore the outside theater which at one time had some wonderful plays and concerts, it is now littered with human excrement and garbage. My son and I had to get out as quick as possible before we got sick. I would not encourage anyone to visit this park, but to maybe write to the Tourism bureau of Acapulco and hopefully they would try to revitalize this once beautiful park.

We took a tour with Rudy and George (Rudy Tour by Van Acapulco) to look at silver jewelry. This is the first place they took us and we loved it. We toured the workshop and mine, Polo was very informative. We were guided up to the shop where I had my first margarita (not a fan of the salt rim but the drink was nice). We were shown lots of gemstones and their abilities to change colour through light or temperature. We bought 4 necklaces, a bracelet and two pairs of earrings. Amazingly sparkly jewelry.

This park is forgotten and in an area of town that you don,t want to go. Is Acapulco dangerous ??? Nothing happens until it happens, and its better to stay in the New Acapulco close to the airport and do not go further than the residential area of Las Brisas. I'd rather be in Playa del Carmen !

We were encouraged to visit the park by our resort as a fun family outing. At best it was a waste of our time. The park was packed dirt and the water features were all dry. The "zoo" consisted of one alligator, two ancient deer and a monkey named Charlie who is out on an island. The day we visited it was oppressively hot with no breeze. The kids' rides were not operational and there was nothing to hold our interest. Perhaps it is nicer in the winter months but I would not recommend this park to anyone.

Really worth tracking this place down. They do a nice little tour of their jewellery workshop and their little mine, which is interesting, then the store! It's filled with some really nice silver jewellery and pieces. A world away from the cheap tacky stuff sold on the beach. We were helped by Ezekiel Molina and he was a lovely gentleman, helpful and knowlegable. I bought a number of great items, bangles, rings, a key ring which were beautifully bagged up and will make splendid gifts. All proper 925 silver as well.
They also serve a welcome drink! Margeritas were excellent!
Address is Juan Sebastian El Cano No 2, Hornos-Insurgentes,, Acapulco. Don't pay to park just tell them at the Parque gate you are going to the jewellery shop
