It exceeded the expectations we had, given that compared to other beaches in Acapulco this one is very quiet and relaxing.
The beach is excellent for watching the sunset. We liked walking on the sand since it is very soft; There are also places to be and experience the spectacular sunset.
We found the BaXar hotel to be able to live the sunset experience, since they have an event around 5 or 6 in the afternoon in which they set up seats on the beach to enjoy it, in addition to music and delicious cocktails.

Super recommended! 😊

The best beach I have ever visited, it is a place that you definitely have to visit when you go to Acapulco, the sunsets are the best you will see! You can see some gorgeous colors. The sand is very soft and the ocean waves are amazing, I definitely love it.

Wanted to experience Pie de la Cuesta since I saw gorgeous photos from reviewers on Trip Advisor. Got great info and advise from the Acapulco Trip Advisor Forum. Since I was going solo I had some concerns. For anyone that wants to experience a spectacular sunset, take a drive out there. I wanted just to walk the beach and see the sunset, so I left the Costera around 2 pm. You have a choice of taking a private driver, a taxi from your hotel, taking a bus to the Zocalo and then a taxi to Pie de la Cuesta but if you do it my way experiencing the bus ride from the Costera to Pie de la Cuesta it is sooo cheap.

The bus is green and white and says Pie de la Cuesta but you have to make sure that what is written on the windshield says Playa or Playa Luces. It is an old bus and a bumpy ride but only costs 7 pesos. The bus ride is approx. 40 minutes.

Imagine experiencing a bus ride where the bus driver stops for gas along the way and also near the central market vendors come on the bus selling water, bananas and colorful ices in a round bag with a straw sticking out.

I would advise to get off the bus in Pie de la Cuesta at Tres Marias Restaurant so you have a landmark. If you don’t speak Spanish write on a paper “Tres Marias, por favor” and show the driver when you get on the bus.

There are two places I am familiar with to pick up the bus. Originally I was told to pick it up on the Costera beach side across the street from Sanborns and Scotia bank (near Zocalo). It no longer stops there as there is the new red Acabus stop at that location. It is now located about 3 blocks behind Sanborns near Woolworths I think on Av Mayo. The location where I took the bus is on the Costera beach side half circle (where different bus pick up) just a few blocks from Parque Papagayo. You will also notice at this location there is a road sign indicating Pie de la Cuesta with an arrow to turn off from the Costero. The street might be called Av Diego Hurtado de Mendoza- Hwy 200 on map.

Make sure when leaving Pie de la Cuesta by bus after the sunset you catch the last one by 7pm. The sunset is from 6:15pm to 6:45pm. Surprisingly a disco bus was coming and I said Zocalo and the driver nodded. I took it for 8 pesos.

Went on the Sunday which was a holiday week end so the restaurant Tres Marias on Lagoon side and beach side (across street from each other) was packed with people. On the beach there is horse back riding and ATV (4 wheelers or dunebuggys) adult size and smaller ones for kids which are driven on the sand along the beach. It is beautiful to watch the ferocious waves and makes for a beautiful photo. It is very dangerous to go in the ocean here but saw a few taking a chance. Everyone comes on the beach for the sunset otherwise the beach is very quiet and you can walk far with no one around.

I started from Acapulco, took a bus labeled "Playa" out to the end destination at Pie de la Cuesta. I Provided myself with water and kept walked toward Pacific Ocean.

When I reached the beach my eyes was caught in the view of a fantastic horizon. Later on, when the sun went down, I was surprised to watch the sunset - the most impressive moment I ever seen so far in North America!

Pie de la Cuesta is a little village outside Acapulco with a beautiful (but mostly unswimmable) beach, where you can walk, horseback ride or just sit with a 'coco loco' cocktail while enjoying the sun or a spectacular sunset. Across the road is the mangrove-lined lagoon where Johnny Weissmuller filmed the Tarzan movies, Sly Stallone filmed Rambo and Elizabeth TAYLOR filmed a White Diamonds commercial. You can rent a boat and go all the way down to the 'barra' where the lagoon meets the ocean or over to the island for a Mezcal with Aldegundo. There are plentiful restaurants both on the beach as well as the lagoon side and you can rent a speedboat for world-class water skiing at one of the clubs on the lagoon side.

We went to hotel Vayma at Pie de la cuesta for lunch, there were only 2 other people around us. The waves were big but so beautiful. Suddenly a whole school of - we are not sure blue whales or humpback whales- were passing and jumping and showing their tail! We were so excited. Then later during the day we see a flock of dolphins jumping and feeding and playing with the waves. It was magical. The beach is beautiful the ocean a bit rough so be careful but deliciously reinvigorating!

This beach is not located in a cove or bay and as such has has strong currents and high waves hitting the beach. It's not a place to go to play or swim in the water. There were a few people with body boards that were riding the waves, but they seemed to be experienced with the ocean.

This beach is long and perfect for horseback riding and riding ATV's. There are several restaurants that provide shade and hammocks. We had some great seafood. This was a place to come and relax, not swim or play in the ocean.

The best thing about this beach is the amazing sunset. A bus of people came to the beach just at sunset. The colors were so vibrant, more so than the other beaches where I saw sunsets.

It's a beach, and I didn't see anything special. It's a cute little town to drive through to get there, but there are other beaches that I think are better near Acapulco.

The place is beautiful but be warned, the waves are huge and extremely dangerous. I am a strong swimmer and used to work as a lifeguard. I cold not handle these waves. They are deadly. I witnessed a near drowning there, the guy was extremely lucky he got out alive. He got knocked unconscious by a wave and was saved by a young Mexican who swam out to get him. He could not get him back and we had to form a human chain to bring them back. We had to perform CPR as he was not breathing. Another time, a girl got her arm broken when she was slammed and dragged to the bottom by a wave. Do not go into the water and do not swim out toward the waves under any circumstance.
