Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I wasn't impressed. Too many vendors trying to sell you stuff, though they usually don’t persist if you say no. Every taxi asked us if we wanted a ride, which got annoying. The area seemed pretty rundown. Also, though there are a lot of restaurants, there is little variety, and I had a hard time finding a place that I wasn't a seafood place, that being said, the public beaches are nice, but I personally liked the beach at my resort better, and the area is safe for tourists, but I felt pretty safe in all parts of Mazatlan.

We walked in the golden zone daily. Felt very safe, although walking across the street is a different story. Be very careful as they will not stop for you. From El Cid Castilla its about an 40 minute walk to the Malecon walk way. Well worth it you get see so many vendors and people and other hotels

When in Mazatlan, we stay in a condo in the Golden Zone.
In my opinion, this is the perfect place in Mazatlan to live for the winter.
Everything you need is within walking distance.
Groceries, shopping, entertainment, beaches, mall, ect, ect, ect, is close by.
Don’t get me wrong, we explore the whole city, but this is where we like to stay

Between Valentina and Ocean vView hotel, the buildings in many instancess need repair or paint...the area looks dilapidated . Many of the stores sell Tourist junk stuff. There are a few fancy jewellery store near Costa Oro hotel. Also a few good restaurant apart fast food ones.

January 2003. This area definitely has some of the nicest shops, hotels, and restaurants, it is however generally pricier than other equally nice places we found.
The busiest part is from the south end Valentinos (white castle looking on the point) to the Dairy Queen on the North. Helados Bing is across from the DQ and is the better choice for ice cream. All the shops and restaurants are very nice. The Mazatlan Arts and Craft Centre is located here as is Sea Shell City. Joe's Oyster Bar is nice (south end). Beware of cruise ship days when it is packed (Weds. & Thurs. when I was there).
One of the nicest shops I found was Micheal's Gallery. There's a small location in the middle of the busy part, then there's a much larger location 3 blocks North of the DQ. There's other really nice shops for about 5 blocks North of DQ so don't miss this area.
We found it a little cheaper for souvineers north up Camaron Sabalo and for a nice shrimp dinner at La Pontilla (by the Stone Island ferry dock) than in the Golden Zone. It is however very clean, convenient and can be walked (Valentino's to DQ and beyond, and back in a morning)

My father retired in mazatlan about 3 years ago and i have been visiting him there ever since. The golden zone definatly is the place to be , my favorite place personally is Mango's its got the best drinks and the nicest waiting staff, be carefull though when going to senior frogs because i have been ripped out of some money, so just pay as you go dont run up a tab!

The only thing more relaxing than the amazing view of a colorful sunset over the ocean would be an hour long massage at CHRISTINE'S. Unfortunately you can't enjoy both simultaneously as the massage takes place in a small room inside what appears to be a coffee shop and internet cafe. But just close your eyes and imagine different scenery as ISUARO works his magic fingers on your aching muscles (and believe me, he finds ALL the problem spots!) The place is easy to miss as it sits back several yards from Ave. Del Mar in the Plaza Balboa (right next to Subway). The only clue to the delightful experience awaiting you is a sign advertising $25 FOR AN HOUR LONG MASSAGE! Compared to the $40 offered by most of the resort spas). They only have room for two people (in seperate rooms) at a time, so it's best to make an appointment. Isuaro worked on me and it was obvious he is a master of his craft and extremely knowledgeable in muscle and tendon care. My friend had J.P. and actually fell asleep during the massage! (I had to go in and wake her up when the massage was over!) Both of us are
ready to fly back to Mazatlan just for the massages! You are sure to enjoy your experience at Christine's without the worries of emptying your pocketbook (just beware of the street vendors and all the beautiful hand-crafted souvenirs you'll pass on the way to your massage appt.)!

Just got back after a 5 year absence to my favorite vacation spot and I couldn't believe the change....it was paradise before now it's heaven!! I went to varios spots through out Mazatlan, but one place I just couldn't seem to stay away from was the Sports Saloon just across from Dairy Queen in the Golden Zone, its just a little hometown bar that I can just relax and get away from it all. The greatest of service, the frienbdliest bartender "Arturo" always has something to say!! The specials, ohhhhhhh the specials, Monday I had XL Jumbo shrimp at a price I could not believe accompanied by a cold draft Pacifico beer, then on Wednesday I couldn't believe I had the Spaghetti Night Special, just like the Italians in my hometown used to make and right before I left I had their Fish Fry...all I could say is I hope people stop by and experience my little hideaway and make it theirs as well. I'll be back in January 2004 and hope to be back at the saloon with the wild bunch.

Hi there~
My husband and I are planning our honeymoon but want some quiet relaxation, great beach, yet have fun things to do. Is the golden zone loud and not romantic?
We are debating between all inclusive Pueblo Bonito either in the golden zone or the other location at Emerald Bay in Nuevo Mazatlán. Any advice you can give would be appreciated.
Written 25 November 2018
Emerald bay is far (taxi ride anywhere you want to go) quiet but not much else except the resort. Pueblo Bonita in the gold zone is a very nice location. Close to many restaurants. My preference would be golden zone. If I wanted to only stay @ resort & go to town a couple times, then emerald bay. Have fun!

I'm flying to Mazatlan with my 20M old in January 2019. Are there stores in the Golden Zone that we can purchase Diapers and other baby essentials at a reasonable price? TIA
Written 17 September 2018
OXXO is a typical 711 type store, they have everything you might need, and also some of the larger farmacia's. Just take a pulmonia to the grocery store...or Walmart. It's very safe.

Nicest safest RV park in the Golden Zone of Mazatlan?
Written 13 September 2017
The Golden Zone is a shopping area. I didn't see any RV Parks in Mazatlan, but I also wasn't looking for them. I don't know if they exist.

Hey there
Considering a last min trio, we have been to Mexico several times but never to Mazatlan, we know very little about the Golden Zone, we are beach bar/restaurant type people who like to get off the resort, is this the area for us? Tks
Written 24 February 2017
Thank you for the enquiry, Mazatlans Golden Zone is a very safe option for new travelers to this area. Hotels, restaurants, beaches, and entertainment are high on the list of must do,s in Mazatlán. Costa Bonito, Costa de oro, and the Holiday Inn are musts on the Hotel lists, beach venues must include Panchos, Las flores, and Playa de mazatlan.
You will not be disappointed.

Does anyone know if the shops, restaurants and the Walmart are open December 24 or 25?
Written 15 November 2016
Most of the shops and restaurants are open , have no idea about Walmart, have been going since 1974 and never been there. Mazatlan is very festive during Christmas.
