Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This is the point on the boardwalk where you find the cliff divers and del diablo. There are many intersting things to see all along the boardwalk. Here you can also find some very nice statues.

Take a pulmania and go visit each monument along the coast. Not only will you learn something about Mazatlan but you will enjoy the view. What a great way to spend a couple hours.

Though not truly 'cliff diving' (They dive from a rock about 40 feet high) it is still an exciting, scary sight. The divers must time the ocean swells to have enough water (About 6 to 8 feet) so they don't break their neck.. They start with a 'shill' who climbs atop the railing on the platform and whistles, yells, crosses himself a hundred times, etc., all to draw tourists close to the railing around the little cove they dive into. Eventually he gets down and the actual diver climbs up. He spends a couple minutes watching and timing the swell before jumping out and off the railing and plunging 40 feet into the cove. All for TIPS !?! So tip well. They just risked their life to entertain you.

Ive been coming to Mazatlan since1979, andI have seen a lot of changes, Back in the day the clifdivers were used more as a form of art and athleticism. The divers kept themselves in pristine shape to be able to swan dive into the ocean . Now the art is lost
And now what we see overweight drinking beer divers looking to make big bucks, and yes they make lots of tip money very aggressively. It feels more like a disgusting scam than a beautiful show presentation. That is to bad the art is lost

I am not sure why this is such a huge tourist attraction. We didn’t have any choice in the matter as taken there as part of a tour of the area. It is a huge tourist trap. These men obviously enjoy what they do, fair enough, but then come round, cap in hand, literally, for tips for the pleasure of watching their craziness. They are not even nice lithe young men! Lots of other vendors getting in on the act. Not something I would seek out to see again.

We were just doing an afternoon walk along the coastline north of Olas Altas and I walked out to the rock pinnacle and was about to climb the stairs when two fit young men said - "Senior, we will jump and you can give us a tip if you like it!" I returned to the parking lot/viewing area and these two, who I learned were brothers each dove, in lovely swan dive form, into the chasm about 50 feet (my guess) below. Another fellow came around asking for "tips". Very informal, without the big production one encounters in Acapulco. It was fun and relaxed this way - very brave!

So, los clavadistas is a definite must see in Mazatlan. Where else are you going to see men diving off of a 15 meter cliff type structure, clearing 2 meters of horizontal rock, and landing head first in a dive in 1 m deep water between sharp rocks? They ask you for money but if you time it right, you might get away without paying. Regardless, they deserve your few dollars in exchange for putting their life in danger for your entertainment.

Watching cliff divers is Mazatlán is a must-do thing when you are in this friendly beach town. Take your time to observe several dives and where they dive into and you will understand how courageous and skillful these divers are. It actually requires a lot of skills and not any world champion divers could do it like they could in Acapulco. There are pointy rocks everywhere under the water they jump into and you have to catch the right waves to get back to the shore. Very inspiring and very impressive. I enjoyed every single dive during the few days I was there. The divers share their tips. Please tip generously. They are like one big family. Miss you all, the divers of Mazatlán. I will be back!

Yes, they dive off a cliff...but you'll get hassled for at least 200 pesos and it's not that spectacular. Don't be fooled by the photos. One night they did all the preparation and then climbed down and went home. Catch it...but don't waste time and money on it.

I didn't even know this existed for years of going to Mazatlan until my last 2 trips. It's located between the golden zone and downtown. You'll see a bunch of vendors and a platform driving by, and you can tell the taxi drivers that you want to go to the cliff diver's and they usually get it. You will get haggled to buy things here and it's nothing you'd want (ie. old fruit with flies on it). They usually charge $2-4/ person, but this is actually a tip. Some people take the city tour just to see this. Don't do that. It's simple goin alone without a tour costing an arm and a leg. The guy jumps frequently once a crowd draws. It's pretty scary. He looks like he'll hit the wall almost every time. It's something new and different to see in Mazatlan, but it's not a top point of interest.

We will be on a cruise ship. Can we get to the cliff divers without doing a tour?
