Love shopping the outdoor markets on the Rio Cuale! Always find good deals. Not as crowded & stuffy as the large indoor markets.

There are two street bridges and a suspension bridge (between the two) that will provide access the Isla Cuale. Oh - and you can access it on the Malecon as well when you take the steps to Oscar's Restaurant. The island is full of shops...More

The island in the River Cuale is a good place to walk, enjoy nature (mostly in the shade of old, tall trees), eat in one of the restaurants, and possibly shop. We return every year for the tranquility and a meal at a favorite restaurant...More

I have been traveling to Puerto Vallarta for almost thity years and am sad to report that the Isla has become a gauntlet of cheap souvenir shops. The museum is still there, as is the famous restaurant, Oscar's, but buses now stop and disgorge a...More

We have strolled down the Isla Cuale several times on or Puerto Vallarta vacation and find the contrast between fine art and tourist bling/blang striking. Cudos to the real artists.

We visited this area to go across the famous "bridges" and stumbled across a huge unique tree. After getting lost and being told different directions, we were only able to find 1 out of the 3 bridges. I was suprized how the area lacked restrooms.

It's hard to believe that you are actually still downtown. Once you take the stairs and cross the broken, rickety bridge, you are suddenly under a canopy of trees, along a riverbank, shopping in cute, well kept vendor stalls with great bargains to be had....More

The isla is a really nice place but it is totally invaded by places selling all type of cheap gifts. During the rainy season it is fantastic to watch the Cuale river run. They have really done a beatiful job in cleaning and improving the...More

I love many things about the Isla. Not so much the flea market or the gringo restaurants. Enjoy the incredible urban artwork, the fun swinging bridges, and the cultural center that leads to Gringo Gulch.

Well there two other "real" bridges other than the one at the Malecon. The first is the north/south street "Emiliano Zapata" and the other is the north/south street "Insurgentes". Or, you could ask any one for directions... More

Yes, but it's not that amazing. As others have said hard to miss on the north side, spanning above maybe 15 ft. No biggie.

Walk to the end of the Malecon going south. There will be a walkway over the river. Under this there are markets. The Isla cuale can be reached this way. I can see that other readers have already answered this question... More
