Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This is the most beautiful church in the city. It sits magnificently a split of two roads, and the area is lively every day with local and tourists. Right across from it are a couple of restaurants where you can eat alfresco as well as places where you can have a drink, have ice cream and simply stroll pleasantly around the area. The church inside is beautiful and a must stop while you visit the city. Go there just before sunset when the sun gives a beautiful hue and contrast with the background to take pictures.

Very pretty with bright and light colors, white, muted orange and light blue. Very little good except in rear upstairs organ which is a sight. Very peaceful and a bit different then many other churches in this area

Beautiful cathedral in central Guanajuato. If it is open definitely go inside and be amazed by the history and grandeur. I would often stop in when passing by as with any of the beautiful churches in Guanajuato and take some time to pray or meditate in the sanctuary.

This church is absolutely beautiful, both inside and out. The decorations are rich and plentiful. We saw a service in the morning, and later caught part of the end of a wedding. The site of the church is wonderful too.

Guanajuato Basilica is both the most visually striking and historically important. The exterior of the Guanajuato Basilica is painted a powerful shade of yellow with red wine detail and doomed roof. The basilica is positioned on a slight hill which when viewed from the town makes the basilica stand higher than the surrounding buildings and if viewed from the surrounding hills it gives the illusion the it is elevated above everyone else.

This church is located up a very steep hill. I took a taxi to get there but rode a bus back down, which was way scary.
The church itself is a lovely church built by a silver baron with more money than taste, but the results are spectacular.
Great view.

Very important basilica and symbolic to Mexico's independence. Guanajuato is full of templos (churches), but this is the big one and an important one.

You will find 23 churches and religious buildings in the relatively small center area of Guanajuato but this one is the most important. The basilica was initially constructed in 1671 but was remodulated to demonstration of wealth of the leading Silver Barons after the independence of Mexico from Spain. Inside the church you will find a jewel incrusted image of the virgin Mary which was hidden over 800 years in a cave by the moors during the invasions of Spain. In 1557 this sacred artifact was given as a gift from king Philip II in recognition of producing vast quantities of silver for the Spanish monarchy. The basilica was designed in the Mexican Baroque style.

It’s one of the main attractions of this interesting city. It’s located on Plaza de la Paz and it was built late 1600, baroque and neoclassic style. It holds the statue of Our Lady of Guanajuato, one of the oldest of America.

Almost everything has gold leaf on it, including the huge pipe organ in the balcony in the back of the church. Eye popping! The Church of Our Lady of Guanajuato became the Basilica in 1957 when a bishop came (the building title upgrade reflected the title of the new head of the church). The facade is mannerist-baroque in style. The sculpture of the Virgin of Guanajuato, the city's patron, was a gift from King Carlos V of Spain in 1557. This is a must-see when you're in town. Oh, one more thing. We had a chance to talk with the bell-ringer when we left. There is no pattern; he rings the bell as many times as the spirit moves him!

We are headed to Guanajuato Nov. 30.. It looks like it may be a tad chilly No? I'll pack my down vest.. Our question is - We love local food and the energy of the places that have a real Vibe "Onda" to them.. Recommendations for great restaurants to explore? Hidden treasures?
We are staying at Casa de Pepila. Dermot the owner from Ireland.. Have heard great reviews.. We are also interested in purchasing real estate ( post election it holds more appeal as a respit ).. Realtors you might recommend to talk with?.. Looking SO forward to our trip.

We are here now, and yes, it is chilly. We wish we had packed more warm clothes. leggings or blue jeans are worn by most pedestrians we have seen in the streets. but bring jackets and scarves. also, make sure your hotel has a heater. our current hotel does not, but we are leaving in the morning so we just got extra blankets for our bed. about 8 degrees Centigrade at night.

Hello,
Do you have any information on how to arrange a wedding at the Basilica? I can't seem to find anything on the internet, but I found your review.
Thank you,
