This is a spectacular site, for reasons stated in other reviews. Two additional points: The magnificent Diego Rivera mural, as well as the Fuente de Tlaloc adjacent to the museum building, were recently restored and are in great shape. A good way to get to the site within the enormous Chapultepec Park is to take a taxi to the Papalote Children's museum; cross the street to enter the park, and then walk a few hundred yards in a northeasterly direction.

It is such a hidden gem that when we asked local workers doing some gardening in the Chapultec, They didn't know it was literally next door. When we got there, we were the only ones. There are descriptions in English about the place and Diego's work on this project and they are worth reading (look for them on the wall on the left-hand side from the entrance). Stunning design and concept and beautifully restored as it used to be a pool from what I read. definitely worth stopping by if you appreciate the art, murals and Diego's work.

This was an amazing project at it's inception and continues to be enhanced. The Diego Rivera murals are amazing and detail ALEXANDER OPARIN.s theory of the evolution of man from single cell organisms! Diego also designed the water element in front which is best seen from above (there's a hill with steps).

I suggest read up on this before you go and check my photos below because there is NO SIGNAGE for this place. UBER finds this if you enter: Dolores Cárcamo Museum (this place has several other names).

I LOVED being here and highly recommend it.

*the organ wasn't playing today. I asked why and got an elaborate answer in Spanish.

First impression is the massive Tlaloc Fountain and the once submerged, but now drained mural building by Rivera. Stunning !. Upon entering the museum you will hear the new-age, ethereal sounds created by water flow through the wall mounted organ pipes. Its a small place that is not beset by tourists. mexico has so much to offer in all the mediums that one has to appreciate the significance of this museum.

This is a small museum, with some indoor Diego Rivera murals in what was a water pool, and a sculpture outside. You can see the whole thing pretty quickly; however, compare to the Diego Rivera Mural Museum near Alameda Central:

When we went to the Diego Rivera Mural Museum, it cost 35 pesos each and there were 100 people there looking at the mural. We went here to the Museo del Carcamo de Dolores and it cost 26 pesos each (a ticket you can also use to get into the Natural History Museum should you so desire) and we were the only people there - in the middle of the day, for the full 15 minutes we were there. If you want, the sculptural portion of the Rivera installation is outside the building, and you can see it for free.

The guy taking tickets spoke English, so you could basically ask him anything about the mural or sculpture, and since we were the only people there we had him all to ourselves.

If you're interested in Diego Rivera enough to go see any of his murals, choose this one.

I can’t understand why this place is better known. If I hadn’t seen it featured in a TV programme just before we went to Mexico City I wouldn’t have known about it.

This is one of Diego Rivera’s greatest works, completed towards the end of his life with a commission from the City Council. It comprises an indoor tank or cistern with murals on the four walls of the tank, which would have been partially under water when the place was operating. Outside is a large “pool” with sculptures of mythical animals and body parts! The whole thing is totally crazy and wonderful.

The City has restored it on 3 occasions since Rivera completed it but still they don’t let people know about it which I find baffling. For any Rivera fan I would rate this as a “must see”. The Carcamo de Dolores is in the second (western) part of Chapultepec Park.

I was really excited to see the Carcamo and the Museo de Jardín del Agua because I’m a big nerd for both Mexican public art and civic infrastructure. Unfortunately when we got there, they were closed even though it was on a day and during hours that it was supposed to be open. Were only able to see tint pieces of the murals through the windows. There were also construction barriers around the Fountain of Tlaloc making it difficult to photograph.

We did walk around the gardens and saw a handful of other people, which was nice after being in much more heavily populated areas of the park all day. So if you’re looking for some tranquil time to decompress from the rest of the park, it’s really nice. But there wasn’t much else to see.

Disappointed, only because I was real looking forward to it, but it just gives me one more reason to come back and hopefully see it.

The construction reminded me of Barcelona’s Park Guelfo.

The murals in a former cistern were a surprise.

Pretty grounds for a brief stop.

All of the Frieda Kahlo paintings and memorabilia are in Europe for blockbuster shows in Milan and London. So the queues are to see the Diego Riveras. Ignore them and go here to see some of his best and last works -almost all to yourself. Spectacular.
And the aeolian pipes are brilliant too.

The murals and statue are pretty cool. Admission also gets you into the Natural History Museum. The cistern by itself is pretty small - worth a ten minute visit if you are in the area.
