The favorite part of our tour with Amigo Tours. The guides described the origin of the University, its library and its beautiful tile mosaics. The explanation of the symbolism really made the visit to Mexico City worthwhile. We will be back to see more of the museums available in the city.

This is my school. I go here and study at CEPE.
The murals and architecture are great. The school is world class and the program I am taking is pretty intense.
I would go five stars here if they layed off the attitude toward foreigners....it's a perception thing for me. You kind of get profiled and treated differently than others. I get it but I dont. The language division is pretty big and all but come on, we all pay to go to school here.
Oh, they also have a HUGE misogyny problem...HUGE.

If you want to get out of the central part of the city and you've already explored neighborhoods such as Coyoacan, San Angel, or the Zona Rosa, it might be time to venture down to Cuidad Universitaria. Take metro line 3 (direction Universidad) and get off at the next to the last stop at Coplico. It's a little confusing, but with over 325,000 students in attendance here, just follow the crowd. In addition to a more than pleasing (although overwhelming) campus, the reason for your visit should be to see some extraordinary murals dotting the campus and the Olympic Stadium. Your first stop should be the expansive mural emphasizing traditional Mayan and Aztec themes on the Faculty of Medicine building. After crossing the Jardin Central, you come upon three amazing mural creations. There is the Juan O'Gorman murals on the central library, the politically inspired three-dimensional Siqueiros mural, and completely mosaic covered Rectory, the university's administrative icon. Finally, you end up at what I considered this trip's "piece de resistance," the Diego Rivera mural on the front of the Olympic Stadium. If you were to see nothing else, Rivera's work is worth the effort of this trip. Although I wasn't able to enter the Olympic complex, his mural is large enough that you can view it well from the fence. I have many favorite Rivera pieces in the city, but the uniqueness of this three-dimensional mural truly captures the "spirit of the games." Further, for history buffs, this is the spot where in 1968, Tommy Smith and John Carlos made their famous "Black Power" protest after winning olympic medals in track and field.

Anyone interested in public education or universities should pay this campus a visit. It's fabulous, especially the mosaic-covered library!

This university was best seen and experienced by quide who could explain the mosaic that is attached to the library. It is in need of interpretation to be fully appreciatied! This is on the UNAM university grounds.

UNAM, University City locates every National College in one Campus with huge gardens, around 500,000 hectars. In the Administrative Building there is one of Siqueiros murals using a new technique in 1978, showing 3 dimensional figures and in the Central Library there are 2 very interesting murals by O'Gorman which was a contemporary of Diego de Rivera and he used natural elements to form blocks that were assembled together forming figures about the history of the land (one mural) and on the second mural there were several arts.

Visit to Uni campus was part of the day tour and it was great experience to see campus and this beautiful library building with the tour guide detailed explanation of the mural. Unfortunately it was holiday so all buildings were closed and just few students were hanging around in groups around the buildings.

Being on exchange here has been great, yet quite exhausting considering the size of the University City and the distances between things. It's a lovely place to visit for a day, they have tours for the murals and on bikes too. Plus, the Cultural zone is great for museums and theatre. If you happen to visit, use the Puma Bus which is free to go from one area to the other.

Entering from Paseo de las Facultades we enjoyed a leisurely stroll around the fine campus, ending at Avenida Insurgentes on the opposite side. Along the way we admired many of the architectural highlights.
We passed numerous faculty departments beginning with the medical ones. Next came the legal studies. Students were enjoying the evening sunshine, taking advantage of and relaxing in the plentiful open green spaces.
The most spectacular edifice was the unique Biblioteca Central with its tower emblazoned with mosaics. It provided a grand vista against the evening sky. Other fine buildings containing large mosaics are in the vicinity.
We continued to Avenida Insurgentes and saw the Estadio Olímpico Universitario. Built in the early 1950s its most famous association is with hosting the 1968 Summer Olympics.

CU is a beautiful and sprawling campus University for the UNAM. It has a park in the centre known as 'Las islas' which is a great place to go running or just relax on the grass out of the busy D.F. life. There are many murals such as that on the the Central library. The Cultrual Centre of the University (CCU) is home to a sculpture park and protected park land which is another good place to go for a walk. Just be careful late at night when it can get a little lonely and secluded.

Para visitar la ciudad universitaria es conveniente presentarse en la oficina de extensión de la ciudad y pedir una visita guiada. Los estudiantes de arquitectura y arte son los guías y verdaderamente vale la pena escucharlos y seguir el itinerario que ellos proponen. Debes averiguar por la visita al Estadio Olímpico, que tiene el mural de Diego Rivera porque no es diaria. Ellos te informan el día que se hace, tengo entendido que durante el fin de semana.

When I went to the Olympic Stadium we took the metro and the "metro bus." There's one that stops not too far from there, but you'll still have to walk to the stadium.

Hello! I will be visiting Mexico City for the first time with my husband in April of this year. We are very excited. The university is a must see for us - particularly the Library and the Museum of Modern Art. I was wondering if there is a campus map available so that we can use it as a guide to discover the campus, as well as the hours for the Library and Museum? Want to make sure that they are not closed on the day we will be visiting. We are tentatively planning to be there for the late afternoon of Monday April 11th. - Thank you!!

Hi,
It is hard to find a map for turists about UNAM, but you can find in the internet a pdf with a map for the Pumabus routes (this map has the bus internal routes you can take inside UNAM, and mark the main places). By now, think I can help you, this since I know almost perfectly UNAM because I studied and worked there almost 10 years (and hope to going back). The places you want to see are located in the old part of UNAM's, this one is called "Campus Central", there are all located on Insurgentes Avenue, then there is not difficult to find them. First depending where you are coming from, you are going to see to in one side the UNAM stadium, and in the other side of the avenue you will see a tower, that one is UNAM's main rectory. Then, the things you are looking for are located around that tower: the library is going to be on the left side of the rectory and, also nearby it is located a museum inside the architecture faculty to the right side of the rectory (but think they have moved this one to another place). Then this another place called "Centro Cultural Universitario" or "Zona Cultural", that has also museums (one is the contemporary art or MUAC) and has other places to visit, it is located to the South of UNAM.
