Closed on Friday afternoon before 5 PM. Knocked on two different doors and were told the area was closed. No explanation given. Wasted Uber trip. Had to pay a premium for another ride out of the area.

This was outstanding and an awe-inspiring site. While we found Casa Azul a bit cultish, this was a true masterpiece on par with Vatican City.

Entry was free. Several early Diego Rivera murals, before he started painting at the National Palace. Not as interesting as later ones.

If you want to see Diego Rivera murals and don’t have the time or money to visit the Diego Rivera Museum or the National Palace, this is a fantastic substitute (or addition)! The building has an entire courtyard ringed with Diego Rivera murals, and entry is free, but you need to bring photo ID.

If you are a fan of Diego Rivera, or history, or social reform, or architecture, definitely worth a visit! A little tricky to find, but just ask the locals.

Great morning at the Murals at the SEP! We went on a Monday morning and doors opened at 10am (entrance is on Republica de Argentina 28) - quick walk from Temple Mayor. They only checked/wrote information from one person's id (driver's license) and let us both in. They gave us a an lanyard to wear which we returned upon exit. The murales and the courtyard are wonderful. We spent about 45 mins there but could have spent more time! There are a few placards (in Spanish) but reccomend to read up on the murals on the SEP website or get a guide.

Admission is free but they are only open 10-5 so plan ahead. The murals cover the walls of an entire courtyard and cover many aspects of Mexican life including commentary on Communism and worker conditions. Really impressive.

This place is a gold mine for Diego Rivera murals. Seems like it isn’t very busy either — at least when we were there. I do think a guide would be worthwhile as it’s difficult to know where to start and so forth on your own. We didn’t have one and it was still worthwhile, but we did feel a bit lost. Great experience though

Hola! Tengo dos preguntas.
1. Si va a estar abierto el edificio la semana del 25 al 28 de diciembre
2. Vi que hay guias, pero no me queda claro si son gratuitos o si tienen costo (cuanto).
Gracias

Can we arrange to take the tour in advance or do we arrange when we arrive at the ministry? Thank you!

We just walked in. There were people with guides while we were there. Totally depends on your needs and desires. These murals can be appreciated with or without guidance.

Hi ! Thanks for your review. My husband is a latin american art buff and we are definitely interested in going here so thanks! We are planing to stay at the ST. Regis and not sure how far this hotel is from all things fun. I'd like a hotel that is central to museums like this. Were there any other art museums you visited? What else did you see while there and how many days do you think you'd need to get a feel for Mexico City and see the "must see" sites? Thanks - we travel quite a bit but have never gone to Mexico City.

We stayed near the Zoczlo (Cathedral, and main square) and there is plenty to see, just walking around and observing! A comment that 'the city itself is a museum' is on point. We passed St Regis on the way to Chapultapec park to visit the Anthropologic museum. This is a don't miss, we also caught the ballet at Belle Artes building later that evening. (it was on just Sunday's and Wednesday's I recall, so check) The park is a great area, also the clubs and restaurants just north of St. Regis. you'll have a wonderful time. don't worry about seeing 'it all, can't be done in one trip, unless you stayed 2-3 months! Cheers
