Loved the toy soldiers and the miniatures via dioramas and terrific educational displayes

Lovers of escargot will be disappointed as this museum refers to ‘Museum of the Spiral’. It was built in the hippie days and is a fabulous introduction to Mexico’s rich history through dioramas and models. Being a child at heart i found the displays colourful and instructive. Its certainly easy to find en route to the Castle de Chapultepec which overshadows it. History amongst classes of children has special meanings to lovers education.

Do not miss it please

When you are walking up towards the Castillo de Chapultec is easy to miss this place.
It is a Mexican History Museum well designed, with a good flow, not packed.

Reopened?

The last time I came by here, the Caracol was closed, for good I hoped, as it was little more than an amateurish PRI p.r. production. I will have to check it out in December.

Not essential, skip if can't read Spanish

The museum recreates in miniature form (with a lot of toy soldiers) from Mexico's history.
Comes across as something tailored for children and purely educational purposes.
No accompanying English translations.
Only thing I found very interesting were the changing border maps of USA and Mexico over time and the replica of the Mexican constitution.
Not worth paying 50 pesos.

The Museo del Caracol (The Snail Shell Museum) is a kids museum that tells the story of Mexico through diaramas of significant moments in history. Note that all information in the museum is in Spanish. Two cool things about the museum: 1. It's built as one big circling ramp (hence the name Caracol). It's like a low-rent Guggenheim: You enter at the top, and exit at the bottom. 2: The original copy of the current (1917) Federal Constitution is on permanent display.
The museum is literally next to Chapultapec Castle
