This Theater was built 1903-1909. Originally it was the theater/casino Luis Mier y Teran. Later it became the General Jesus Carranza. It is currently called Macedonio Alcala Theatre in honor of the Oaxacan composer of the waltz Dios Nuncio Muere. The building has renaissance influence. The horseshoe-shaped auditorium on the inside is of the imperial style. The ceiling features a... More

Home to the Oaxaca Symphony Orchestra, this theater is one of a kind, it used to be a casino, and it's architecture is amazing. If you like classical music you should visit, free concerts by Oaxaca Symphony are on fridays at 8pm.

We have been several times to this amazing Teatro for concerts. The greatest things is that almost all the concerts are for free. It is an very impressed building and great atmosphere. We have been to many places in the world but are so impressed with the culture in Mexico.

Beautiful Theater, small but with plenty of architectural details in the roof and walls of the theater. Very nice place to listen to concerts and to play in it.

We check the Oaxaca Calendar and Que Pasa Oaxaca on line to see what films, concert or dance performances are scheduled in the theater. Many events are free or low cost. The extravagantly painted ceiling, with scantily clad floating beauties, is a delight, as are the Porfiriata era moldings and composer portraits. Acoustics are very good and seats are comfortable.... It seems the schedule to see the interior is picked every day. I was there twice, different schedules each time. Could not visit the interior. The Tourism Ministry should see into these!

Built in the turn of the 19th to 20th century this theater has a parisian style. Inside is even more remarkable with a beautiful stairwell. Take a look inside.

This is an old, beautiful theater. It is always worth checking to see if there is any upcoming performance you can go to there. It's an experience to attend any event at this theater. Unfortunately, it is used infrequently. Do walk by and see if there are any posters announcing an event, and if it's an event you might like,... More

Tour was only 20 pesos & guide took us every where in the Building. Spanish speaking guide only. We were the only people to enjoy this private tour.
