About
En Via is a non-profit microfinance organization whose mission is to empower women in the Tlacolula Valley of Oaxaca. We work to educate travelers about the power of microfinance and business education by connecting them with local women through visits to their communities. On these visits, travelers meet women who receive micro-loans to invest in their small businesses. We work with a diverse range of entrepreneurs, from women who make tortillas, to weavers, to convenience store owners. Participants hear about the women's lives and projects, and what they invest their loans in. The profits from the tours fund En Vía's micro-loan and education programs.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

What can I say that hasn’t already been said by others? In my experience, this is the #1 experience in Oaxaca. Not to be missed.

Our group visit to Oaxaca in January was amazing – colorful, vibrant, deep in cultural experience. A standout was our tour with Fundación En Vía. Visiting the homes of women entrepreneurs – Cristina, Angelina, Trinidad, Erica and Aurea - in San Marcos Tlapazola and Teotitlan del Valle was surprisingly rich and inspiring. Add it to your list – it will be well worth your time!

My husband and I took an En Via tour on the advice of a friend who now lives in Oaxaca. We are so glad we took that advice--it was one of the highlights of our trip. We visited four women who had received loans from En Via: a baker, an embroiderer, a chicken farmer and a weaver. It was wonderful to hear the women speak about their businesses and how En Via had helped them, both with microloans and with classes on business topics like budgeting and creating an on-line presence. The tour took us to places we would never have gone by ourselves. We had the opportunity to buy some of the beautiful products the women had made, but there was no obligation to do so. We are already planning to take another En Via tour when we return next year.

The tour cost goes in supporting indigenous women grow their business. We got to meet 5 women who have managed to grow their business and support their family due to funds from Funacion En Via. You get up close and personal view and the range of personalities, business and stories. Their model is working and what a great way to experience the true culture and put dollars to good use. Truly Responsible Tourism and highly recommend. Tour guides Eric and Helen were excellent!

Fantastic organization with a clear mission and excellent execution. It was wonderful to see the women and the businesses they have created, along with how they have grown and adapted their businesses over time. Absolutely no pressure to buy. Overall a great half day tour that leaves you feeling that there is good in the world.

Have you admired Oaxacan textiles, pottery and tortillas? Our tour allowed us to meet the women artisans who receive loans from fundación del via to create such things. It was 6 hrs in total and included visits to 4 homes/businesses in nearby villages where we listened to a presentation and watched a demo. This was the highlight of our trip! The teen said it was better than expected. And Helen and Eric - our guides- made it smooth and memorable. Such important work everyone is doing!

13 years ago in Oaxaca I took this tour (with a new nonprofit organization at the time). We took that tour again! What a magical organization. 6000 loans to nearly 200 women in 5 communities. Supporting women with their credit and businesses, one way we can change the world. @barrorojodemariacruzmtz was our first visit (of five entrepreneurs), she is a red pottery artisan. We also visited a restaurant and two textile families. Gracias por todo! If you are in Oaxaca, please check out their responsible tours. #redpottery #teotitlandelvalle #oaxaca #womenentrepreneurs #lifeisshort #traveloften

We joined Fundacion En Via on a half day tour to visit with five women entrepreneurs who began their businesses with interest free loans from En Via. The businesses were varied and meeting the women was a highlight of our two weeks in Oaxaca. En Via staff member, Dora and En Via volunteer, Helen were excellent guides and translators on this tour. We highly recommend this tour.

This tour was lovely. The host was genuine and gracious and generous with her time. She and her husband treated us like true guests, and we were able to get a sense of life in the pueblo, as well as the life of a weaver. I was hesitant to take a tour, but so grateful that we did. It was worth it in every way.

We had a wonderful experience visiting 4 women who had benefited from the micro loans. We started with a delicious lunch in a garden, then visited weavers, a shopkeeper and a lady with livestock and a store selling beans and rice.
It was amazing to meet the women and to see a different side of Oaxaca and to learn about the local government systems.

En Via has a web site, which you find by googling. Trip Advisor won't let you enter other websites into the response. there is a tab that says book a tour! I hope you enjoy your visit. Our time with En Via and visiting women in the villages was a highlight of the time in Oaxaca.

Hi - do you have any special tours this summer?
Envia I
Oaxaca, Mexico
Yes! We are offering two special tours at the bginning of July. Our En Vía Project Tour: July 2nd – July 6th and our Project Tour mini: July 3rd and 4th.
The Project Tour is a five-day tour that combines cultural tourism with hands-on development projects. Participants partake in a variety of activities alongside community partners including stove-building, a cooking class, a hike in the hills above San Miguel del Valle, painting a store-front with an En Vía borrower, witnessing a town festival and much more!
The Project Tour mini shines a spotlight on Teotitlán del Valle, a Zapotec community world renowned for weaving intricately patterned wool rugs. You will learn from community members about their culture and traditions AND reciprocate this gift through participating in a hands-on development project.
Highlights include participating in Teotitlán's town festival, a cooking class with renowned local chef Reyna Mendoza, and building a fuel efficient stove with an En Vía borrower.
If you are interested in seeing the full itinerary for either of these tours, e-mail us!
We will also be running our standard half-day micro-finance tours on Thursdays and Saturdays throughout the summer.
Let us know if you have any other questions!
