Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

A really nteresting place. Most of the common areas have been restored to how they would have looked in the 16th and 17th century if the Catholic bishop lived here and not nuns. Lots of paintings and some statuary. After being a convent it served many purposes including as a municipal warehouse and a jail. It was rescued from disrepair and converted into a deluxe hotel a few years ago. Go take a look.

We did not stay at the hotel, but we certainly want to on another trip here--it looks simply wonderful. So old and so posh, we walked around and visited the pool area and hallways, loved everything we saw.

It's fortunate that even though this hotel is very, very expensive, they allow the public to visit and enjoy its beauty. Around the grounds there are photos of years gone by and what it looked like before it was restored.
The courtyard is stunning with the pool and relics. I felt I was transported back in time.
The place is simple but enchanting and I wrote some of my best work while sitting in the courtyard away from the heat of the day and the peace and quiet.
I decided to order a cocktail and sat under the flowering trees and let the world surround me. What a great day.

Ex-Convento is an a _lovely_ hotel in the heart of historic Oaxaca - I stayed here with my wife and daughter over the Christmas holiday and had a uniquely wonderful time visiting the Radish Festival, spending lot's of time in the cultural museum - one of the best museums I've been lucky to visit, and touring the diverse and extensive archeology sites and villages around the city. The rooms were lovely, clean and comfortable. The restaurant in their courtyard is superb, and the swimming pool in it's own courtyard was beautiful with perfect service.

This is a classic, old, beautiful building converted to a hotel and other attractions. On a quiet street. The hotel (La Quinta Real Oaxacca) is a beautiful spot for a quick visit or, especially, Sunday brunch.

I went at the hour appointed for the free public tours, but found that this would only be in Spanish unless I arranged in advance. However, the guide staff was friendly and invited me give myself a self-guided walk through. The whole ground floor is open to the public. The whole place is beautifully appointed with candelarias everywhere - must be great at night. An elaborate wedding was about to take place in the the former church area. There is also a nice shop which opens off the street.

Wander thru the corridors to see the laundry structure for the convent. The church is used for special events such as weddings.

The convento is now a hotel. You can enter and visit all the place without paying anything.
Is sad that you can see the place as it really was.

This is a beautiful place, which has been converted into a hotel. I wanted to book it, but, since it was over New Year, there were no rooms available. The place we stayed was great, and this is more expensive, so next time here I am not sure what to do.
