Very large and important collection. The building is also beautiful and has a gorgeous view of the etnobotanical gardens. It really complements the visit to MonteAlban.

Fairly large museum set in a lovely ex-convento next to the cathedral. But the findings room of the artifacts from Monte Alban tomb (found in the 1930's) make one of the best museum rooms in the world. Feel free to skip the rest of the...More

Do not go to Monte Alban before you see this exhibit. If you do, you will not have the same awe and respect for the culture that created this ancient city that you will have if you see the artifacts from the 1930s expedition. There...More

This museum houses an extraordinary collection of artifacts found in Tomb 7 at Monte Alban. The explanations are so enlightening -- I recommend it highly. If you're going to Monte Alban, definitely go here first.

What fantastic value for money and a comprehensive journey about Oaxaca history. A must. Somewhere that looks likely to be small but just keeps going on - in a good way.

What an incredible visual timeline from the first human inhabitants of Oaxaca valley to modern day all presented in the monastery where you can imagine life in the church during its hay day. It’s worth every peso and then some.

A real gem of a museum, offering an overview of the history of the region from its first cultures to the present. Many wonderful items to view. When we were there, there was no English signage or audio-tour, so some Spanish is essential.

Enjoyed walking through to see the displays of the artists. Was a positive break from the heat while learning more about the culture. Thought provoking.

Not to worry Katherine, the relics you bought are not old. They are most likely good reproductions. The old gentlemen inside Monte Alban are authorized to sell souvenirs to tourists. So set out those pottery heads and... More
