We saw this guided trip to San Juan Chamula and Zinacantan recommended on Tripadvisor. We found the instructions on their website for the trip to be a tad confusing (probably our fault), and thought at first they had an office on Plaza de la Paz,...More

We just took a tour to the highland Maya villages of Chamula and Zinacantan. It was a perfect introduction to the indigenous people and cultures of the region. The English-speaking guide, Cesar, was very knowledgeable about the beliefs, customs, and religious practices of the local...More

This was clearly one of the highlights of our trip to San Cristobal. Our friends suggested we do this on Sunday. Good call given the market in Chamula as well as the extra activity at the cemetery, etc. Chamula is truly an other-worldly experience. We’re...More

Don’t go looking for bling go for the privilege they let you in. You get the feeling they tolerate tourists but it If you are lucky it will touch you. I am not at all religious but I was moved by the experience.

I was lucky enough to take the tour to Chamula yesterday, Nov. 1, Dia de los Muertos. It was quite spectacular and as others have said, the guide for English-speaking visitors, César, could not have been more knowledgeable or articulate explaining the aspects of what...More

Our group consisted of five tourists plus our guide César, who approaches the visits to Chamula and Zinacantán as though he's sharing a part of his life with us. He has friends in both towns who we have a chance to meet, and he clearly...More
