Mexico is not an homogenous country, it has many regions, many faces. Veracruz it's just one of them, and El Malecon is the best way to approach to this rich area.

I have no idea what happened, but when we went this past February, the smell was extremely unpleasant, so we ended up going somewhere else.

The title says it all...tons of gift shops and places to eat. Fun to watch the huge barges with thousands of containers moving around.

We enjoyed the Malecon. It was relaxing with a great positive energy. Our daughters enjoyed running and chasing one another in the big open spaces.

I'm a little surprised by all the positive reviews. The Malecon is worth a visit if you are in town. It is an outdoor market (clothes, trinkets, keychains, etc.). We walked from our hotel to visit the harbour and the nice historic buildings. On the Sunday's the local people walking with there family,s on the piers. You can take a boat trip or bustour. In the evening there is an open lighted bus tour.
