Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We were told by Pablo from our resort, LeBlanc that we would love the Mambo Cafe in downtown Cancun. We were a little concerned (because it was downtown) but Pablo insisted we would be safe and we would have a great time. He called ahead and when we got there the management was waiting for us with red carpet treatment.
The music was the best music we heard the whole vacation (we tried Coco Bongo and some other nightclubs in that area. HATED Coco Bongo!). If you want to be treated like royalty and if you enjoy latin dance and music you will find no better place to go than Mambo Cafe. If you don't speak spanish you may have a little difficulty communicating with some of the customers there but you'll have no problem with the wait staff. This is an upscale nightclub so you won't find any rifraf in here. (At least in 2006 this was the case! :) What you WILL find is awesome music and dancing. If you like to dance the salsa, mambo, etc you will fit right in. If you like to watch latin dance performers and listen to latin music you will LOVE it! Most of those on the dance floor were dressed to the max in the traditional and beautiful spanish ensembles. The band that played the night we were there was something you'd have expected to pay top dollar to see...lots of brass, too.
If you are looking for a safe place with great entertainment, a place you can dance and also treated liike a king/queen...you must go to the Mambo Cafe!
We visited Mambo Cafe in 2006. Hopefully it's still there and still the same!

I went here two nights in a row because I loved it so much. The atmosphere is buzzing, and it is full of locals rather than tourists which we really enjoyed.

The music is pretty much all spanish and all singing done by the live is in spanish too.

The dancing: the best part. You will see people salsaing, doing the buchata, tango.. (hope I got those right) it’s brilliant. I can do none of those dances but someone will see you ask you to dance and teach you. It’s fantastic!

Drinks and entry are cheap. Entry was 60 pesos both nights I went, and two tequilla sunrises were 200 ( less than £10 )

If I ever return to Cancun, this will be my first stop back!

We split time between Cancun and the US. Gran Mambo Cafe is always on our dance schedule.. at least one night a week. Open Wed-Sat nights 10:30-3. Thursdays is open bar where for 190/90 pesos men/women can drink cheap beer/liquor all night.

The music starts with a DJ and the live band starts about 12. Music is always excellent with mostly salsa, cumbia and some bachatta. As the evening progresses, more merengue/hip hop style gets mixed in. The bands are very good and generally include about 10 musicians/singers.

If you love salsa dancing, early is the time to come before the dance floor gets busy. Later, it gets pretty tight... Like cigarettes in a pack.

The wooden dance floor wraps around the stage and shows many signs of repairs past. Pick a good place without nails sticking up, holes or loose boards. Sound-wise, the DJ music sounds great everywhere. But because the stage is so wide, the time it takes for the music to travel from 1 side to the other can make the beat seem "out of time" and hard to follow when dancing on the far sides.

They generally reserve the good/close tables on busy nights for groups of 5-8 people. Otherwise, you'll be asked to sit in the 3rd or 4th tier seating.. but all seats have a great view of the stage.

Overall, they have excellent music, dancing and a fun time in a safe neighborhood. Any taxi can take you there, or take the R2 bus from the hotel zone and get off as if you're going to Walmart. Mambo Cafe is "kady-korner" from Walmart in the Hong Kong Plaza.

Other places we love to Latin dance in Cancun: Fridays at Carlos & Charlie's for Cuban Salsa. Sundays on Av Tulum about 1/2 block down from the Gov't building, in front of the 7-11 to dance Salsa, cumbia and son with the locals.

Great place for live music and dancing. I'm no night owl so with the band starting after midnight I couldn't enjoy the band for their entire set.

We came to Cancun for a holiday so had no real desire to go to the clubs but really wanted to go to a local bar/club to listen to some Latin music and try to salsa (very badly). Mambo cafe was great! Watching everyone twirling and spinning on the dance floor was excellent. We went on a Friday night which was apparently not as good as Saturday but still had loads of fun! Live band and they mixed in some other genres of music which was fun too!

We visited Grand Mambo Cafe in Mexico City and loved it a lot! So we decided to spend a few nights of our Cancun holiday in sister(?) place. It is a very authentic Latin American salsoteca with nice wooden dance floor and live Cuban style band after midnight. All 3 nights it was only local public there, but always very polite and friendly to us- Europeans dancing Latina. Staff speaks only Spanish, and generally place is for to dance salsa, cumbia ( they love it in Mexico), little bachata, they also start some DJ's reggaeton later at night on Fridays and Saturdays. Perfect place for salsa fellows, completely safe, about 20 min by taxi from Zona Hoteliera. I have noticed quite many senioritas - girls only companies, dancing either together or finding cavaliers from men visitors. We danced , listened to the music, watched some of local master dancers... highly recommended and possibly the only local salsa club which is open from Wednesday to Saturday.

Great venue for live mambo music and dancing. Definitely a place the locals hang out. Cover is 60 pesos and the show is as good as Coco Bongo. Drinks are a reasonable 80 pesos. Can from the hotel zone will run 100-150 pesos. Live band doesn't come on to about midnight and the party goes on to about 4 am.

We were looking for some local place to go out, enjoy the Latin rhythms and dance salsa. Mambo cafe was recommended to us by many people and after visiting this place I can see why it's so popular. I was surprised how good it was. Great place, friendly staff, amazing people and it's all value for money. To top it off the cuban live band performing there was the highlight of our evenings. I would definitely recommend this place to enjoy something different than standard tourists night clubs in Cancun.

I really enjoyed the live salsa band. I had no troubles finding a dance partner and the crowd on Saturday night was incredible! They had lots of fun special effects to celebrate Halloween. I am definitely going back when I return in the spring.
