The Templo de Kukulkán also known as El Castillo is the large center pyramid that you think of when Chichen Itzá is brought up. It is truly an incredible astronomical ancient Mayan monument. There are 91 steps on each side plus 1 on the top representing the days in each season. This Temple is also considered to be the center point of the Yucatán Peninsula. Overall, I highly recommend visiting this temple.

One such wonder is the Kukulkan Pyramid, also known as El Castillo, a magnificent structure that captivates visitors with its architectural prowess and intriguing acoustic phenomenon.

This majestic structure is not just visually stunning; it also possesses a fascinating sonic quality. When you stand facing the base of the pyramid and clap your hands, a distinct echo reverberates back, resembling the chirp of a serpent.

The chirping echo is not just a random sound; it holds cultural significance. The Maya people believed that Kukulkan, the feathered serpent god, descended to Earth from the heavens. The echo resembling a chirp was thus interpreted as the voice of the god responding to the claps of the worshippers. This act of clapping served as a form of communication or offering to the deity.

A very warm day for walking around but the queue was worth the wait!

This is an outstanding ancient site at the heart of Chichen-Itza. It is a must see when you are in this area of Mexico. Make sure that you visit the whole site and allow at least 2 - 3 hours for your visit.

Nice place for visiting one time. Nothing special. Don’t listen guys who are in a few km before the park. It’s just a deception for tourists

The annoyances in this trip was: It takes at least 14 hours to and from Cancun and there are too many hecklers who wish to force you to buy fake sovenir. These two factors ruined our trip.

This temple was built by ancient Mayans hundreds of years ago. They knew exactly where and how to build it. It was impressive (and still is) and was designed to subjugate the common people.
