This is the most suggestive place I've ever visited. My and my wife were there in a not crowded day, with the sun being a little covered by gray clouds. The atmosphere, the big temple, the ancient observatory and all the other monuments were impressive....More

The Mayan culture unravels itself and is one of the wonders. They created a whole civilization based on their obsession with astronomy. Incredible !!

the grounds have a feeling that it was left behind, or cursed. Still the grounds are very nice. Beware of the iguanas they bite. The stairs up the pyramid are intense and going down is worse. Have fun.

It was a great learning experience. We went on February and it was hot; take sunblock, hat, and water! The site should get information guides, to give or purchase - too much information to retain.

I visited here in 1986 and little has changed except then we were able to climb the pyramid. Since 2006, climbing is prohibited on all of the pyramids which is probably a good idea since going up is easy but coming down is treacherous.

This is the main building at the Chichen Itza site. Lots of other things to do there, and lots of people wanting to sell stuff.

Our tour was from Cozumel, so the bus started from Playa del Carmen after we got off the ferry. It took 2 hours by road to get to Chichen Itza from Playa del Carmen, which now seems faster than the Cancun road trip... More
