Snorkeling off of the private beach is the highlight. Staff was friendly and helpful. We stayed in a basic double bed room. Beds were comfortable and clean. My only complaints were that the shower was older and did not seem very clean and that there are not enough beach chairs for the guests. You have to claim your chaise by placing your towel on it by 7:30 am if you want to enjoy the beach with some shade. Enjoyed that it was a smaller place that was quiet and away from the cruise ship crowd. We usually ate a large breakfast that was included, had a snack at the Tikki bar for lunch, and went to dinner downtown.

We’ve been going twice a year to Playa Azul since 2010 & we hope to be going for another ten years. The staff is phenomenal…from the second day of our first visit, they knew our names, our drink & food preferences & what made us smile. They are now like family to us. We had a great Thanksgiving dinner this year, overlooking the ocean…Luis thought of everything making it a 5 star gourmet treat. Jaime & Luis made us whatever we wanted for breakfast…from huevos divorciados to breakfast burritos to omelettes, all with great sides of Mexican specialties & sauces. Best fresh papaya & oj we’ve ever had. Lunches, snacks & dinners are equally delicious. The menu has everything you could want: traditional Mexican, fresh seafood, Italian, steaks or anything made to order.
The rooms are beautiful (we stay in the traditional Mexican side), very clean…thanks to the attentive service staff, beautiful patio overlooking the ocean, great shower and bed.
The wait staff at the beach bar & restaurants is the best we’ve ever encountered. Kermit, Luis, Darwin, Ivan, Guadalupe, Carlita, Martín, Adiel , Pedro & Francisco anticipated our every need. The front desk staff (Yassir, Roberto & Geraldine) are equally friendly, knowledgeable & helpful.
During our two weeks, we witnessed the improvements already being made by the new management: repairing & painting walls throughout the property, upgrading rooms, beautifying the landscaping, redoing tiles in the pool.
The beach, swimming, & sunsets can’t be beat.
We can’t wait to return in February.
¡Muchas Gracias a todos en Playa Azul!

What can I say? This is the best hotel stay we have ever had! From the moment we arrived, the staff treated us wonderfully!! Roberto greeted us and we saw him the most, but all of the front desk staff were immensely helpful and patient. The room was immaculate and spacious and the staff very accomodating - and very talented with their blanket animals!! The bed was comfortable and the hot water plentiful!
And the food!! We only included breakfast but from our first night there, eating at the outside bar, we decided to eat most meals there. The food was better than any meal we had at local restaurants, although they were very good also. The bar and wait staff were great! Kind, fun and friendly. Everyone on the hotel grounds was friendly and helpful and made us feel at home.
The beach is cozy and clean and you can use the Playa Azul club next door. The water is amazing in Cozumel! Warm, clean and lots of fish right off the beach to see when you snorkel! A baby barracuda and I hung out for a while just looking at each other until he decided I was too boring and swam away.
We are leaving tomorrow after 10 days and I'm so sad to be leaving this hotel and Cozumel! It's a friendly and safe place with beautiful people and culture. We will be back within a year and cannot wait to see our new friends here again!

We visited for 5 days over New Years and we are soooo glad we chose Playa Azul. Everything about the entire resort was wonderful. When we arrived we were told they were completely booked so they needed to upgrade our room reservation to the master suite (oh no. Stop. Don’t) lol
Our first floor room was so perfect, we could walk right out of our room onto the beach and beach bar is right there. The bartenders even brought our drinks right over to our patio as did the servers from the restaurant with our food.
Everyone was so friendly and happy and pleasant to talk with.
We are not the type of couple to ever go all inclusive and hate crowds of people so Playa Azul is perfect for us. Snorkel gear is available to rent which I did for 24 hours and snorkeled right in front of our room.
The food was amazing as well. Breakfast was included and was terrific each morning. I got hooked on their awesome Belgian Waffles. Some mornings my husband just walked off our patio down to the restaurant and with 5 minutes wax back with a huge plate of food we ate on our patio. Dinner was not included but prices were cheaper than we would normally pay in the US for a top notch dinner out. Kudos to their kitchen staff and chefs!!!
Front desk was very friendly and eager to resolve issues we had with Covid test (which is a third party).
We loved our housekeepers. We always had fresh blanket design on our bed everyday. Please do remember to tip your housekeepers, they do a wonderful job!!!! We left them $5-10usd each morning to say thank you!!

We will definitely stay here when we visit Cozumel again!!!

Pros: Cute smaller sized old school resort in decent condition. Hubs and I stayed for 5 days in a ocean front room. It was clean and well kept, we felt safe both Covid wise and physically. It has a small beach you can swim or snorkel right off - there are rentals for equipment right next door if needed.
The snorkeling was surprisingly good - we saw an octopus and a stingray!!! Try to do the snorkeling at hotel when the jet skis and beach club to the left aren’t open. It’s a much better experience.
This is an all inclusive resort - the food and drinks were good But, like all hotels it’s starts to taste the same after a couple days.
Omelet and waffle station also available for breakfast great OJ.
Great Hawaiian pizza and hamburgers too!
Pool was clean and super warm 👏🏻
Staff was very nice and accommodating.
Cons: beds were made of stone, Desperately need either new mattresses/mattress topper. Pillows were fine.
Also much needed are new sheets, towels and for the love of god please put up a towel rack or two.
The safe is a joke bc it’s not secured to anything if someone broke in room etc. all they have to do is pick it up and walk out.
Plumbing fixtures in our room were on their last leg as well.
All in all we would stay here again IF they fix the bed issue including sheets etc.
Had a great time!
Would recommend

Over the last year I used to come here a lot because they didn’t charge entrance. Now they do, $8 or 150 pesos, and it’s to make sure there’s a minimum consumption. The service has always been pretty terrible but this time was worse than usual. Once inside, sitting on a beach chair, no one ever came over to me so that I could order. I moved to the cabaña closer to t he kitchen, still nothing. Someone finally brought me the menu but before I had a chance to order, another server took it away to give to another table. I finally ordered a smoothie and when I received it, it was horribly sweet, despite saying no sugar or grenadine. Come to find out, it’s actually made with syrup not real fruit! Very strange to be in the Caribbean ordering a smoothie with no fruit. Later friends joined me, and every time we wanted to order we had to get up and find a server, sometimes even reminding them we were waiting on an order. At the end, when we finally paid and my friends left, I was on my way out and they said they’d forgotten to add the food I ordered to the bill we paid, so I had to pay again. After having left a decent tip that the servers did not deserve, I was extremely unhappy about having to pay more. All and all I consumed about 240 pesos of stuff (including the wristband paid on entry) and paid 420 including tip. Needless to say, I won’t be returning.

This place is absolutely amazing! We came over from Playa del Carmen, hoping to get away from the Sargasso seaweed and get some snorkeling in, We visited based on other Trip Advisor reviews. Don't let the tour people and taxi drivers in Playa del Carmen or Cozumel talk you out of visiting. We were told things like "you need a boat to get there", "their beach is only sand, no reef", "you won't see any fish", etc. Taxi from the ferry is just 95 pesos - less than $5 US. This is some of the best off-beach snorkeling I've EVER experienced and I've been snorkeling for over 40 years. So many fish!!! Service was also wonderful...no pressure to hurry to order and they even checked in with us while we were in the water. The Chicken Enchiladas with green sauce are amazing. Visit this beach if you like small places and snorkeling without all the touristy hype. Note: We brought our own snorkel gear, towels, etc. so I can't comment on availability of these items.

Playa Azul is my favorite hotel in Cozumel. I know Cozumel like the back of my hand after living there for a couple years. My room was super clean, comfortable, good sized, with a great view. ALL the staff goes above and beyond. The breakfast is really great! Made to order eggs, pancakes and waffles along with so many other options. The best part is the beach and snorkeling. You get a sandy beach and and great ocean life. It’s a beautiful, quiet, perfect place to enjoy Cozumel. Trust me, you’ll have a great time at Playa Azul. You’ll probably make some new friends who will treat you like family. This is the place!

After many years of staying at Playa Azul, we were extremely satisfied with our recent stay. Both new and "old" employees were friendly, helpful and courteous.
