Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

My wife and I enjoy going to Mezcalito's Everytime we get to Cozumel. The bar is great the food is good. Sometimes we start laying out nude and being the only ones nude but someone has to be first. Then more and more will get nude. We'll then walk down to the water and of course there will always be a prude or two but then others will finally get the urge. Several times people have come up to us and said thanks. We've wanted to try nude on a beach but didn't have the nerve to be first. We always tell them the second and third time and after just gets easier. Remember that next time and just be first so others can be like them and try it their first time. Last year there were some local fishermen but I think they come just to see strangers naked. They never came close or bothered us but they didn't catch many fish either. Don't be bashful next time or even if it's your first time, enjoy 😎

we arrived via carnival paradise at the carnival pier in december 2012. the pier is on the west side of the island. you will walk down the pier and between two bar/ restaurants, then head left thru the shopping area. catch a taxi at the terminal past the shops for $7 and proceed to Less Pay car rental. for around $36 you can rent a 4 door vehicle with ac and explore the island for the day. we reserved a car on line before the cruise. Less Pay is north of all the cruise docking locations. john or carlos will take god care of you. we traveled to the east side of the island where most of the beaches are located. it is a 20 minute drive with no traffic to speak of on a saturday morning. you will arrive at mescalitos, where you can check out the souveniers and have a drink or choose froggs, next door for food and drinks.the beaches are beautuful.. further down the road is coconuts beach bar with an equally beautiful beach and wonderfully semi private umbrella tables amid island landscaping. continuing on..you will come to the island lighthouse on the left and catedral on the right . there is a wonderful little church there and hand -made crafts are available... take a photo with "the last mayan " just a few more minutes on the main road and you are back in the city to return your rental. the entire trip can be done in 3 or 4 hrs depending on your level of thirst or hunger. this is a great way to spend a day in cozumel, especially if you want to get away from the crowds and the hustle and bustle of the city. we never felt unsafe at any time. enjoy your trip

We love Mezcalitos. The ceviche is great and they have an awesome service. We have been twice in new years and is not crowded. The beach is beautiful and almost all for yourself. Will come again for sure.

After reading the negative reviews I decided to post to maybe clarify before newcomers go to backside of island. Must go with mindset to enjoy the simplicity and beauty of the backside of the island and that includes no electricity. Order drinks on the rocks, take small bills so you can make appropriate change and pay in cash. Be prepared for lots of just sitting and watching the waves. As for weak drinks, I left half a drink this time because I didn't want to be over served before our next stop. And yes there will be locals wanting to sell you something. It's part of Mexico. Mezcalitos is our first stop as we make our way down the coast. Always a pleasant experience and love to see the faces of guests seeing the backside ocean for first time.

Come on down and walk the beach, enjoy a cold drink and swing in the hammocks! This little gem is worth the short drive to get to it! What an excellent little place to sneak away too!

Complaining that a small place doesn't take credit cards and only having 500 peso bills indicates a very basic lack of travel smarts.
Been to Mezcalitos many times the staff is very attentive without bothering you every five minutes to push drinks. The food is good, the view is great. Take a nice walk on the beach enjoy a nice low key place !

If you're renting a car or scooter to drive around the island, this is a great location to stop for a drink or a rest.
There a few shops if you're looking for the typical tourist souvenirs and a nice beach. There was even a naked beach if that's your thing. It was a bit chilly so nobody was really swimming but tourists were welcomed to lay in the hammock or use the big swings while having a drink.

Since this is on the Eastern side of the island, how is the sargassum in the summer?
