Located right on Merida's central square, it's impossible to miss, and dominates the surrounding area. Go in and sit for mass or to just have a moment of peace. On Sundays, the street in front is closed and there are food stands.

Very interesting colonial cathedral. The pipe organ is gigantic. It looks as much like a fortification as a church. They don't make 'em like this any more!

Not ornate, but beautiful nonetheless and the organ is stunning if you can get a chance to quietly and respectfully sit while a mass is on.

A must visit if you are in Merida. Very old and still in use. Right off the central square. You can visit other sights around the square. The are horse drawn carriages and a tour bus located right at the square which is a good way to see it all since three would be quite a lot of walking. This... More

This is a working place of worship , and as such could not be described as a tourist attraction . Apart from the religious aspect , don't think one would wish to visit as a sight seer

This Cathedral is located right at the Grande Plaza. Beautiful church. You will find people, mostly locals inside reflecting and praying. A good place for anyone to reflect.

Easy to visit as it is right on the Plaza Grande. Lots of history to this cathedral . Google it for more about that. It is one of the oldest Cathedrals in all of the Americas. The massive interior has a very special feeling.

Beautiful Cathedral in the heart of Merida. Lovely to see and enjoy a stroll around the park and see all the other sights in the area.

This Cathedral is a true piece of history, right in the heart of el Centro. We passed through on a Sunday during worship hours and were just amazed at the majesty of this Cathedral; one of the oldest in North America.

The massive stones of the Mayan temples that stood nearby were repositioned to make this huge renaissance cathedral, one of the oldest in the Americas. Most of its gilded wooden altars and decoration were burned a hundred years ago during the Mexican Revolution, which makes the building look stark, bright, and imposing. Hang out inside when it's open and watch... More
