We had heard of Los Dos by friends who had visited Mérida previously and had certain expectations but Chef Mario exceeded those expectations. His close partnership with Chef Jeff, his own cultural knowledge and love of the cuisine results in an experience like no other. My husband and I had the great fortune of taking the Taste of Yucatán class.... More

The first time I cooked with David Sterling at the Los Dos Cooking School was 2003. We remained friends over the years. I recently returned to cook with Chef Mario Canul. He is an amazing and personable teacher and chef. For me the highlight was going to the market and buying all the ingredients. Taking some of the flavors of... More

I am sorry to say that I have to agree with the recent bad review. First of all, I believe it should be made clear that chef & cook-book author David Sterling passed away and is no longer running this "Cooking" School. Second, whoever is continuing this operation is using the name of David Sterling to make the big buck... More

We at Los Dos are very sorry to hear that the experience was not what you expected it to be. The dozens of positive reviews from previous participants shows that it is something that many people do enjoy. We feel that it is clearly explained on our website what the many different classes and excursions entail, and this was not... More

We signed up for a half-day "cooking class" called cucina economica. We payed 125 USD each, were taken to a village tasting a sandwich. Spent 10 minutes at a market with some lecture about lime. Then were harried on to a private house in which the family cooks food based on order. We were asked to put some chicken leg... More

Our day with Chef David at Los Dos was a grand finale to a week in Mexico studying colonial art in Mexico City and Merida. First came the feast for our eyes upon entering the cooking school we were welcomed into a colorful environment from the dining room and patio to the kitchen. Then came the history of food mingled... Great combination of background, history and foundations of Yucatan cuisine. Beautiful setting in the home and fabulous kitchen of Chef David Sterling. David is gracious and has a wry sense of humor we all appreciated. The trip to the market gathering ingredients was fascinating and seamless. The hands on cooking experience in an intimate setting alongside Local talented staff orchestrated a memorable... More

Not only in the kitchen with chef David Sterling, but in his personal kitchen. That speaks volumes about chef Sterling's teaching philosophy. We were fortunate enough to have a package which meant just the two of us learning from and working with this amazing man and his staff. The package included excursions to the market, to the home of a... More

My wife and I chose the Street Eats tour because the cooking class was full. We toured 4 wonderful restaurants and the fabulous market all in one day. Our guide was Mario. You couldn't ask for a better person to introduce you to authentic Yucateca cuisine. His knowledge was surpassed only by his pride and passion for his culture and... More

Didn't know what to think going in but wouldn't have missed it for the world. Chef David taught us what and how to buy as he took us to the market. Got us up to our elbows in a variety of sauces, explained to us the history of the cooking techniques he was teaching us, all with his own brand... More

My husband sent me to Los Dos for my birthday, and it was the best present ever. I not only learned a ton from Chef Sterling (his book is amazing, btw), but I learned just as much from touring the Merida area with Mario. I spent 3 days with a group and Mario touring us around. We got to visit... More
