A store: Not the wonderful Grand Museo del Mundo Maya

This is a Mayan craft store near the Zocalo. It's got lots of people hustling tourists, but knowing that, there's no danger, plus you'll see a lot of interesting items. You're... read more

I honestly don't know how they have the heart for ripping people off like they do. I really wanted to buy typical hat and asked for top quality ( the one that you can fold, holds the liquid and is being used on weddings). well as I came home all came to big disappointment as the water went right through,... Watch out for pushy salespeople who can be really annoying. The restaurant is cool and a good place for a meal.

Like everyone else we too were approached over and over and over again. You get so excited thinking it is a conversation with a nice local, but it always ends with this store!!! Even some of the restaurants we went to handed out cards. We also were extra unlucky as our hotel was just a few buildings down so we... More

I stopped at the Main St. Restaurant for a snack and a drink and the waiter told me about this place. He gave me the whole spiel about "real Mexican hand crafts" and a shaman that I should go see because they will tell me about healing stones. He said that "I look like a spiritual person". LOL! What a... More

My sister and I were enjoying the sites in Merida, we went to the cathedral. An older man approached us, he was very sweet and was telling us about the sites to see in Merida. He then was very enthusiastic about Mundo Maya, a Mayan market with genuine Mayan goods. He told us if we wanted to go to the... More

This two-story shop on Calle 62 near the central square seems like every other tourist emporium on the outside, but once you step in and see the jewelry you realize it is a serious place. The choice of jewelry in particular is dizzying. They have works from numerous craftspeople. Do not neglect the area in back that has hats that... More

When my husband and I decided not to buy the Mayan masks we had been looking at, the salesman called us Cheapskates and insulted us continually until we left the store. It was a very uncomfortable and unpleasant experience. I would not go here again.

If you are visiting Merida you must stop here. It has two floors and it is full of amazing art of all types. The statues, masks, jewelry, carpets, mats, hammocks. You name it and they have got it. They support all the local artists and sculptors, jewelry makers. The quality is extraordinary and magnificent. You can also find the classic... More

I read all the reviews and I have to say I'm a little confused. We had such a different experience. Yes we were stopped by a hustler in the zocalo who told us he was practicing his English but that kind of stuff happens fairly often when you look like an American tourist in a relatively poorer country. The guy... More

This is a Mayan craft store near the Zocalo. It's got lots of people hustling tourists, but knowing that, there's no danger, plus you'll see a lot of interesting items. You're welcome to bargain. And you're welcome to walk out. There are actually several such operations, all applying the same come-on. It was amusing, not sinister. We also found the... More
