This tour is a must in order to understand the processing of sisal, without which there would never have been tall ships, gunny sacks etc. the hacienda is lovely, the explanations easy to understand, the cenote very swimmable. I would recommend just taking the tour, not staying for lunch, etc. as you are close enough to Merida to return and... More

This hacienda with sisal factory, owner's home and cenote is essential visiting to get the true feeling of life on a hacienda during the golden age of sisal production. The swim in the cenote and the excellent lunch were bonuses not to be missed! There is even a hotel on the hacienda, but the whole area is so large it... More

After a weekend in Merida, we decided to do a tour of Hacienda Sotuta de Peon before heading back to Playa del Carmen. It was out of our way but so worth the extra drive! This is a beautifully restored Hacienda and working farm where we learned the history of the henequen industry along with many interesting demonstrations. We had... More

We really enjoyed this working Hacienda. The tour was very educational and entertaining. Watching the henican processed as well as seeing it in the fields added prospective to the industry. The price was on the high side.

Probably one of the better cenotes you will find in Yucatan as far as clean, well lit non wild cenotes. The tour of the factory is average just as the restaurant but once you get to cenote it's well worth the trip. Entrance fee a bit steep considering for what it is but they did a lot to maintain that... More

This was an interesting, but crowded tour. The guide spoke some English, which helped. It was interesting to see how rope was made and the history of the hacienda, which was quite large and one of the few remaining, working hacienda's around. I understand why others found it laughable, but for a glimpse into the past workings of a hacienda, whee... More

We puchased tickets with a driver. He picked us up at the Gran Plaza Mall in Merida, MX. Drove us to the Hacienda. We then had time to take pictures of the Hacienda before the tour started. We had a wonderful Bi-lingual tour guide, Juan, he explained everything about the hacienda and the working of the henequén factory. We took... More

Excellent guided tour which gives visitors a glimpse of the sisal hacienda world. A real living museum. Excellent guide. Interactive tour. Well worth a détour.

This is such a bad tour that you want to laugh at it. The tour groups are very large. Maybe 70 people. The guide uses a microphone that has a lot of feedback. She switches between English and Spanish. She translates about 1 in 10 sentences to English. But her accent and the microphone feedback is so poor that you... More
