Great experience, Memo is the best!!
We had a wonderful tour of the caves with our guide, Memo. We have been to many caves, but swimming through the cool, clear water underground was a truly unique experience. We cannot say enough positive things about Memo, who was our personable, professional, and knowledgeable guide. He is the sort of tour guide that makes a trip into a lifelong memory!

    Rio secreto- un regalo especial
Rio secreto is truly “una regalo especial” and out tour guide, Adrianna, was absolutely incredible. Her passion combined with the unreal beauty of this place made this trip truly unforgettable. My boyfriend and I opted for the “plus” admission which included a bike ride, rappelling into a cave and exploring a dry cave, plus the actual rio secreto tour and it was worth every penny. The facilities are very clean, the food was delicious and authentic and the river itself is something you have to see to believe. I can’t thank the staff enough for making this one of our favorite experiences in Mexico.

A Once in a Lifetime Adventure
I cannot say enough good things about our visit to Rio Secreto! We came in from Carnival Cruise Line in Cozumel and was ferried over to Playa del Carmen. Although I can't remember exactly what the excursion was called, it included transportation, our tour and lunch. The tour was very complete and organized at all times. They provided the wetsuits, gear, the water shoes and even towels when we were done. All we had to do was show up and have fun. They even do all the photo-taking for you! The tour itself was a real life adventure. We explored an underground cave with the most beautiful natural elements that you have to see to believe. It is something you will never regret spending spending the time nor money doing. Our tour guide, Alberto was such an interesting person. He made the history, the science and his love for Rio Secreto come alive. He was very attentive and never rushed us. I felt like I could just listen to him for hours as he explained so much of what we were seeing and experiencing. The cave exploration never felt claustrophobic or scary -- just breathtaking and awe inspiring. I used a guide stick (they provided) for better footing because the cave floor is not perfectly flat and there are many places you could use the extra support. If you have issues with bad knees or a bad back, consider this before signing up for the tour. You are in natural elements in their natural state. The authentic meal and taste of their signature liquor at the end was just icing on the cake. I regret not purchasing the liquor as it was deliciously unique and quite smooth. This was truly an adventure our family will never forget. I look forward to the day where we can come back and visit again.

    English-Speaking Tour
This tour was amazing! It was more adventurous than we realized when my husband and I booked it along with the Tulum Mayan ruins tour. Since we don't speak Spanish, it was extremely important that we had an English-speaking tour guide. Our guide, Tianara, was wonderful! She even gave us pointers on things to avoid, as well as upstanding places for lunch and shopping. This is the tour that I didn't know was on my bucket list, but I'm sooo happy we did it!

    BS guide, beautiful caves
The caves were beautiful and our photographer Hector was very pleasant and took a lot of great photos. Our guide was grumpy and irritated from the start. He must have quarreled with his boyfriend or something 🥺 He was not very informative at all 👎 Let me just say to everyone that are irritated about not being able to take photos themselves. You would never be able to take these on your own. Hector knew where and how to take them with back lit photography. $ 110 for 70 photos is not a bad price.

Natural Beauty and Knowledgeable Guide at Rio Secreto
Our visit to Río Secreto was a lot of fun. Angel, our guide, did an exceptional job teaching us about the cave’s history and natural wonders. We opted for the basic tour, which I have to admit, felt a bit pricey at around $125 per person (we used the Hotel’s agency, Nexus Tours) for a 1.5-hour excursion and a less-than-stellar buffet. One thing to note: Despite what we’d read online, Río Secreto is not a cenote, nor do they market it as such. We initially came here expecting a cenote experience based on various reviews and recommendations from travel websites. So, we were slightly disappointed on that front. However, the underground river adventure turned out to be stunning, cenote or not. One aspect that we truly appreciated is that Río Secreto has preserved the cave in its natural state, without an overload of artificial lighting or other elements that could disrupt the ecosystem. It allowed us to experience the cave’s raw beauty. Overall, while the cost and initial expectations were a bit off, the underground river experience was beautiful, and the commitment to preserving the natural state of the cave was a commendable choice.

    Rio Secreto WILD is amazing
We had the best time with the Rio Secreto WILD tour! Make no mistake, this tour is extremely physical. Like an all day workout! We had a blast! The bike & underground river swim were amazing. We had the best tour guide too! Mowgli kept us laughing all day! He was the best! The buffet was yummy too. We all left exhausted & full of smiles.

Great experience- might want to book your own transfers
We did the original/shortest tour with 2 adults and 4 kids ranging in age from 8-15. Everyone really enjoyed the tour! Very unique experience! The only negative was that we booked transfers through them and it took an hour and 15 minutes each way even though our hotel was 30 minutes away due to having to pick up/drop off others. We also had to wait for others at the end of the tour before we left- probably 30 minutes then as well. If I had to do it again, I would book our own transfers- especially with kids who just wanted to get there/back.

    Highly recommend.
My swim in the river exceeded my expectation. I have trouble getting around due to my age and the staff was VERY helpful. Hats off to Miguel, especially. This was an 80th birthday present from my daughter and I couldn't have been happier.

Wow, what a beautiful place. This was hands down our best thing we did in Mexico. Jorge was our guide and he was awesome! He had the best energy throughout the entire trip. We had a mixed group of Americans and Mexicans and he did the guide in both English and Spanish. He kept the group entertained and was super knowledgeable and gave us really great information. Inside the cave is beautiful. The water was refreshing and crystal clear. I chose to go without a wet suit and my husband chose to wear one. He was glad he had it because he thought the water was too cold. I enjoyed the coolness of the water and was glad I didn’t have it. We did buy the picture package it was $120 for all the photos. They give you a code so you can download them. Unfortunately we weren’t able to access all of the photos but we had enough of the ones we liked. Tulum was super cool but we went after the river tour and got there mid afternoon. It was hot as balls. Make sure to take them up on the umbrella, you’ll be glad you have it. We were so sweaty and hot. We definitely rushed looking at the ruins because we were so hot and thirsty. We loved this excursion and would definitely do it again. Jorge was the best guide we could’ve had, very lucky we had him!

One of the best excursions I’ve ever had! Fer B, our guide, was fantastic. He’s extremely knowledgeable about the cave system and Mayan culture. He was very friendly, personable and safety conscientious. We repelled into the first cave. What an amazing experience! Ive been spelunking numerous times, but never in a wet cave; and the difference is notable. You really feel like you are immersed in the cave. It was a full day excursion and the time flew by. The beauty we saw is indescribable. It’s also the perfect way to beat the Mexico heat. I can’t recommend Fer and this excursion enough. Don’t think about it, just book it!

The recent cave expedition was truly remarkable. Our guide, Ms. Gala Rivera, demonstrated exceptional expertise by providing comprehensive information about the cave's formation and history. Additionally, we were accompanied by a professional photographer who captured excellent photographs of our group. Overall, it was an exceptional experience shared with colleagues and family members. I highly recommend visiting the Rio Secreto Cave for an unforgettable adventure.

We booked our excursion through the Sunwing rep at our hotel.

If you are staying at a further away hotel near Isla Mujeres, be prepared to have a longer ride to and from Rio Secreto (i.e. an hour plus) than if you are near the hotel district and if you there is another 45mins ride from there to Tulum both ways. It took us approximately 2 hours to get back to our resort.

The day we went, it was 33 degrees and extremely hot and humid. Although we did try to get there as early as possible and your transport does have air conditioning, people not accustomed to this weather may experience heat exhaustion. Umbrellas and bottle water are provided however any plastics will not be permitted into the area where the ruins are located. Drink the botle of water ASAP as you will need it for to journey in the hot sun. There are many photo ops and after the tour, you are brought back to Tulum market.

Transport is arranged back to Rio Secreto for buffet lunch for approximately half an hour.

Next is a 10 minute ride to the caves where you would suit up in wet suit and water shoes ride for about another 10 minutes by bicycle and then replel down to the caves. Unfortunately, I was unable to proceed to this part as I did not feel well and eventually confirm I had heat exhaustion. Alfredo and Irma were able to help me and bring me back to normal with fluids and fruit and continually checking up on me. Be warned that if you are not used to the heat, you may get heat stroke/exhaustion and may require medical attention. They were very attentive and caring and I thank them very much.

My other half did end up continuing on with the activities and had a very good experience. This activity does require bike riding, repelling down into a cave and a bit of floating/swimming. It is much cooler in the caves.

Our guide, Aaron was very attentive and was very knowledgeable of both Tulum and Rio Secreto. We will be back next time and yes, I will just do the Rio Secreto part only.

Amazing experience! Pepe was a fantastic guide! He was very knowledgeable and passionate about his work. It was wonderful to be able to see through his eyes and gain a deeper appreciation of the natural formations and the part they play in history. There was also a short Mayan ceremony/blessing before we went in that was really cool to hear. The buffet lunch at the end was also tasty!

I just want to give advice for this tour. There are lots of stairs involved (going up), walking on the cave floor is very rocky fell numerous times. If your not in good shape or have any balance issues you shouldn't do this. The tour itself is nice, but I couldn't finish the tour.

this was awesome - definitely recommend. Naomi was our tour guide and she was great - super engaging and kept it light and fun while also teaching us a lot about the caves, history, and surrounding culture. if you can add the lunch option, the food was delicious! they will pick you up from your resort and take you back, so if you can make it happen it’s definitely worth the price!

We had a fantastic time at Rio Secreto today. The caves were beautiful. There was wheelchair access via a steep slope into the cave, and our guides Pepe and Dany were very helpful in guiding us down. They were also very knowledgeable about the caves and made our experience extremely enjoyable.

Booked our tour through Nexus Tours/ Sunwing representative at the resort we stayed at. It came to 4486.61 MXN / (250.20 USD) for 2 people, including all the transportation, nice lunch buffet, wetsuit, water-shoes, life-jacket, helmet with light, lockers, and a reasonably sized group of 8 -10 people. The driver provided sunbrella and water bottles for Tulum. All the drivers/ staff/ employees/ tour-guide were GREAT.

Rio Secreto was amazing and 110% worthwhile. (It was also nice to get away from the heat and the wind, and the water was not too cold with a wet suit). Beautiful nature and very fun exploration! -(if you're into that sort of thing).
There are NO electronic devices of any sort or camera allowed... which on one hand, I would have loved to take some photos there, but on the other hand it is also a nice experience when you and everyone around you isn't distracted with photo taking and is just enjoying the experience.
An assigned Rio Secreto photographer accompanies your group into Rio Secreto, and there is an option to buy photos at the end, but the prices are RIDICULOUS, especially since it's just normal digital photography and everyone is a digital photographer in this day in age. I don't understand why they don't just reasonably price (absolutely no more than $14 USD total) for a digital copy of the photographs, so that most people would actually buy them, (considering the photographer already took them anyway). I imagine they would actually make more money that way in the end. Instead they charge about $100 USD for about 12 alright (no artistic masterpiece) photos.

Tulum was a neat site, (& lots of iguanas) but when we went it was extremely windy and super hot (midday), and being a sensitive wuss when it comes to unfavourable weather conditions I would, in retrospect have skipped out on this tour, unless I was there during milder weather.
