Nice atmosphere. Beware pushy vendors

I am glad that I took some time to read some reviews on trip advisor before going to visit 5th ave, because I was prepared. As others have posted, beware vendors that look at... read more

Would be nicer to look around without being yelled at constantly. I try to buy from the quieter vendors that are friendly. A young Mayan family sitting on a blanket on the street selling homemade gifts - is more my style. The shouting and hey I know you from *** hotel I am a waiter in the restaurant - is... More

We started out our shopping experience in downtown Playa del Carmen at 5th Avenue and 38th Street. This is where our taxi driver dropped us off when we asked him to take us downtown. We headed South and immediately started browsing the shops. I went into a store on the left hand side shortly after we left 38th and found... More

I am glad that I took some time to read some reviews on trip advisor before going to visit 5th ave, because I was prepared. As others have posted, beware vendors that look at your resort bracelet and say that they work at your hotel. They are very pushy and try very hard to get you to go into their... More

Took a cab from our resort, was dropped off at the far end (north?) of the avenue. It was a hot, sunny day, bring a hat and/or wear sunscreen if you don't want to get burned. Typical tourist-trap type shopping and food, completely unexciting for our 5 year old other than the numerous trinkets at the souvenir stores (maracas! pens!... More

Did a "free" shopping tour that stopped at jewelry warehouse and glass blowing factory then on to Playa for 5th Ave shopping. The shopping is outdoor on 5th ave walkway and seems to go on for miles. Plenty of shops of all types. Be warned about the endless guys walking up and asking if you remember them from the resort...it's... More

This is a shopper's paradise. The street tends to go on almost forever with shops selling almost anything. Lots of bargains to be had a don't forget to barter because most places will drop a price substantially. Especially if you tell them that a similar item is for sale for less at a competing vendor two blocks away.

So, my husband and I are BIG fans of Playa Del Carmen, and usually stay at a resort in Playacar...we visit 5th Ave. every trip and are never disappointed. Lots of shops, lots of eateries....this trip they had even made better access to public bathrooms....clean and easy to find. I guess the only thing i do not care for is... More

We stayed a few blocks from 5th Avenue at Gran Porto Resort and I'm so glad we did. There is a nearly endless amount of shops and restaurants to try while visiting. (WARNING: The vendors will sometimes stand in the intersection areas and look for you to be wearing a bracelet which identifies which resort you are from - they... More

This is the major touristy shopping area. If you take a cab they drop you at the old end of this street. The shops are run down and the owners can be loud and want you in there shop to make a deal or sale. The street is closed to vehicles and is very busy with a time zone atmosphere... More
