Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

It's a beautiful drive cut into the mountain from Kalk Bay to Muizenberg. Take care when looking at the view. Rather stop from period to period. The standard of driving in SA city ntinues to deteriorate among the generally evolving disregard for the rule of Law. At the Kalk Bay entry to the drive on the left hand side there is a wonderful Indian Restaurant. Called JJ's. Authentic and BYO. Quality and affordable. Enjoy.

This lesser known road curls around the Muizenberg-Kalk Bay mountains, elevated several dozen metres above the main road, and offering spectacular vistas of False Bay. The road is approximately 8 km long and offers parking spaces along the sides in all but the narrowest areas. Coming from cape Town alog the M4 Main Road, turn off onto Boyes drive and glide upwards along the mountain, with a panoramic view of Lakeside. This first stretch of road offers ample parking and a short stop is highly recommended, to take in the magnificence of the fresh water lakes on the flat land below. Drive uphil and watch the scenery change as the ocean becomes more prominent, adding to the depth of colour offered by this drive. Soon you will approach a hilly section of the road with houses on either side, and no views. As you hurry towards the summit of the road, the vistas open up again and the sense of anticipation is soon justified by some of the most majestic scenery in Cape Town. Table Bay presents itself, surrounding by mountains near and far, Muizenberg beach lies before you stretching for endless kilometres all the way to Gordons Bay. Binoculars are a good idea to view this magnificent sandy beach, home to surfers, swimmers, windsurfers and fishermen. On Boyes drive itself you will find the Sharkspotters, who scan the bay almost daily for great whites, potentially dangerous for increasing numbers of bathers ; shark spotters are generally happy to talk about their work. The main road and railway line appear in miniature form from the heights of Boyes drive, hinting at further sights along the road. The road then winds along towards Kalk Bay, which appears in postcard picture form as you bounce along the curvy road. This is yet another good place to stop and capture photographs of this quaint fishing village, which lures you to the end of the road. Boyes Drive is often skipped by larger tourist busses because they are not as easily accommodated. The road is however, suitable for smaller vehicles and is on the way to other attractions along the South Peninsula (penguin colony, Cape Point, Simonstown). While the M4 Main road is also pleasant, Boyes drive offers a significantly more pleasing experience, less traffic and the prospect of enjoying some of the most beautiful views in the world.

A drive along here gives one a really good idea of False Bay and just what it means to Cape Town. Read up on the history of this remarkable stretch of coastline and why it is called False Bay. Be careful where you stop as the road is busy and is an important thoroughfare for many residents.

Of course, the views are breathtaking, but it's also a lazy way to find hiking trails. You'll find a few along the mountainside.

As with all Cape Peninsular roads, this drive is very narrow. There are a few places to stop and admire the scenery - in my opinion, there should be more, as the locals make use of this road in preference to the lower and slower Main Road. One can understand their impatience with tourists who drive slowly while admiring the view.

This road is one that you simply must drive, but make sure you drive it from the Muizenberg side towards Kalkbaai. That way you will be on the best side of the road to get the best views.

Good views from the car but no viewpoints or places to stop, unless you Mount the kerb and park on the pavement. So you can’t fully appreciate the views.

Lovely to stop at the Shark Spotter Hut, the views stretches as far as the eyes can see into the Ocean, possible to see Dolphins, whales, sharks from this area. The view of the False Bay Coast area is absolutely stunning. You could see the surfers on their surfboards in the Water & frolicking in the waves....a surfers paradise!

I travel on Boyce’s drive whenever possible. When I visit my daughter. The views are spectacular.
Stop your car, get out and look at the mountains, Muizenberg beach. The vlei, and then further on kalkbay and further still. Keep stopping. One of my favourite stopping places is as you begin to descend. Park there and just absorb the beauty.

Boyes Drive is a great way to miss the traffic of the Main Road. You will miss Muizenburg and end up in Kalk Bay but, it is a very scenic drive.
