Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We walked from nearby Honeystreet. Thought we were going the correct way but ended up the wrong side of barbed wire, we had to retrace our steps and climb a gate. The climb up the last few hundred feet was extremely steep.
We tried to then continue on a circular route once we got to the top and the spectacular views, but signage and online maps were extremely poor.

We visited family in the area recently. We discovered that this White Horse is just a short walk from their house. So, off we went as it was a lovely day.

The Pewsey White Horse is on Pewsey Hill about a mile south of Pewsey, to the east of the minor road that leads from the A345 on the edge of Pewsey to the village of Everleigh. It is a little above and a little to the left of the site of the original white horse.

The original horse was cut in 1785 reputedly featuring a rider but was redesigned in 1937 by Mr George Marples and cut by volunteers of the Pewsey Fire Brigade to celebrate the Coronation of King George VI. Originally the date it was cut appeared above the horse, but this has since disappeared. This current horse replaces a lost 18th century one. The maintenance of this horse is done by the Pewsey 6X Club

It's a lovely and easy walk up to the base of the hill. Then it is a steep but easy and quick climb up the hill to the horse. The horse is fenced off for protection, and there is an information board there for reference to the other 7 White Horses of Wiltshire.

We met a lovely German family who happened to walk up when we were there. We advised them, if they had time, to visit our favourite white horse, at Westbury.

I drive topside of this horse about three or four times per month on the unclassified road between Pewsey and Everlieigh. Its precise grid reference is SU 171 580. It is the second most recent of Wiltshire's eight horses and was carved out in 1937 to commemorate the Coronation of George VI. As with Devizes' Millennium Horse, it was carved to replace a much earlier figure dating to 1785. The earlier figure disappeared from view quite soon after its carving due to the landowner refusing access to local villagers to perform regular maintenance.

The Pewsey Horse measures 30 meters long by 11 meters tall and sits on an incline of about 30 degrees making it not the easiest to see clearly.

The newer horse was carved in 1937 by a George Marples, a local historian who was at the time researching Wiltshire's horses and as such, was approached by the locals as they wanted a permanent commemoration of the forthcoming Coronation. The simplest option was to "find" and resurrect the 1785 carving but it was almost impossible to determine its exact location and in the end, the easiest option was to carve a new figure.

Pewsey Fire Brigade actually performed the cutting, under instruction from Mr Marples and the horse lies above and to the left of where the older horse still lies. The horse did feature the date of "1937" immediately above its back; it has been regularly scoured but the date numbers have long since faded into obscurity.

Pewsey horse is best viewed from the A345 Salisbury Road where there is a close by parking area or it can be reached via public footpaths from Pewsey.

Been there twice - and we've only been in the UK for a week! Can walk up from the town. Wicked views over the Pewsey Vale. Super wildflowers.

Park up in Pewsey (all car parks are free), have a good walk up the hill and admire the view from the top of the horse.
Back down the hill, couple of pints in one of the pubs then walk to the canal for lunch. Sunday sorted!

NB - it's not a real horse......

Beautiful views. Can park and walk to th horse, or brave it and start from bottom. Either way the surrounding views are wonderful.

This white horse is very cool, easily viewed from the road. There may be closer access, but it isn't really necessary.
