We walked through this market fairly early in the morning so that not quite all of the stalls were open. But the ones that were held an assortment of goodies. We really enjoyed wandering through and spent a good deal of time trying not to buy more stuff to take home!

Lovely booths of everything you need, don't need, might want and at a great price. I hate when you look back and say "I wish I had"...well, I wish I had bought some silver. Great artistry & prices. Not crowded at all, colorful for photos, exceptionally clean and you move through leisurely. Go!

This place is a great location for you to get deals on artisan works. Lots of metal work at a great cost. Lots of other items as well. Make sure to take the steps at the end of the hallway because there are more locales on top with more and different types of goods for sale.

I love a market I don't care how much junk there is. The colour, spectacle and Mexican arts and crafts are worth a look. This is a typical traditional Mexican tourist market with scarfs, purses, jewellery, paintings and bizarre sculptures. What's not to like.

Good juice and torta stands inside for a yummy and cheap lunch. The market is overpriced, people don't bargain in it (& I tried EVERYWHERE and am a world traveler and pretty decent bargainer). Go to the Tuesday market where I bought, last week, a ceramic talavera sun for 30 pesos (US $1.50) and there was a fun assortment of... More

We were on our last full day in SMA and needed to find a few trinkets to bring home to the kids and co-workers. This was the place! Great market with something for everyone. Huge produce and food areas, worth taking a walk through. At first pass, we thought a lot of the art vendors had the same items, but... More

Obviously, you'll want to take something back with you from Mexico and THIS is the place to buy it. I enter at Hidalgo and de Luz streets. There's a pharmacy on the corner and next to it are stairs that take you down to where it starts. SMA is known for "tin" and they make a lot of tin products... More

This is the big traditional Mexican (and Indian) market, crowded and packed with handicrafts, hats, shoes, jewelry, scarves, purses, packaged and hot foods, fresh juices, and just about anything you may be shopping for. Not a lot of bartering like in some Mexican towns...most items are priced as marked.

After a 12 year absence from San Miguel de Allende one of the places I was looking most forward to returning to was the Mercado de Artesanias. My previous experience was wonderful and allowed me to bring back many wonderful gifts to friends and family as well as the stories of the Artists themselves. As with all things given time,... More
